Setup and Installation

The SDC850 is designed for under-cabinet installation. A mounting template and hardware are included to facilitate this process.

Initial Cleaning:

  1. Before first use, wash the thermal carafe, brew basket, and water reservoir in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly.
  2. Wipe the exterior of the coffeemaker with a damp cloth.
  3. Run two full cycles of plain water through the coffeemaker without coffee grounds to clean the internal components.

Mounting Instructions:

Refer to the included mounting template for precise drilling locations. Ensure the mounting surface is sturdy and capable of supporting the coffeemaker's weight. Follow these general steps:

  1. Select a suitable location under a cabinet, ensuring adequate clearance for the carafe and access to the water reservoir.
  2. Tape the provided mounting template to the underside of the cabinet.
  3. Drill pilot holes as indicated on the template.
  4. Attach the mounting bracket (if separate) or the coffeemaker directly using the provided screws and spacers. Ensure it is securely fastened.
  5. Plug the coffeemaker into a standard electrical outlet. The cord storage feature helps manage excess cord length.
  6. The Save-A-Plug outlet on the back of the unit allows for connecting another small SpaceMaker appliance, such as a mini food processor or can opener, to conserve outlet space.

Operating Instructions

Setting the Clock:

  1. Plug in the coffeemaker. The digital display will flash.
  2. Press the HOUR button repeatedly until the correct hour is displayed. Pay attention to the AM/PM indicator.
  3. Press the MINUTE button repeatedly until the correct minute is displayed.
  4. The clock is now set.

Brewing Coffee:

  1. Fill Water Reservoir: Remove the water reservoir from the unit. Fill it with fresh, cold water to the desired level (up to 8 cups). Replace the reservoir securely.
  2. Add Coffee Grounds: Open the brew basket compartment. Place a #4 cone-style paper filter or the included reusable coffee filter into the brew basket. Add the desired amount of ground coffee (approximately 1 tablespoon per cup, adjust to taste). Close the brew basket compartment.
  3. Place Carafe: Ensure the thermal carafe is empty and properly seated on the warming plate.
  4. Start Brewing: Press the ON/OFF button. The indicator light will illuminate, and brewing will begin.
  5. Sneak-A-Cup Feature: If you need a cup before brewing is complete, you can temporarily remove the carafe. The flow of coffee will pause. Replace the carafe within 20 seconds to prevent overflow.
  6. After Brewing: Once brewing is complete, the coffeemaker will automatically shut off. The thermal carafe will keep the coffee hot for several hours.

Programming Delay Brew:

  1. Prepare the coffeemaker for brewing as described above (water, coffee grounds, carafe in place).
  2. Press the PROG button. The display will flash.
  3. Use the HOUR and MINUTE buttons to set the desired time for brewing to start.
  4. Press the PROG button again to confirm the setting. The program indicator light will illuminate.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your coffeemaker.

Daily Cleaning:

  1. Always unplug the coffeemaker before cleaning and allow it to cool completely.
  2. Remove the brew basket and thermal carafe. Wash them in warm, soapy water. The brew basket is top-rack dishwasher safe.
  3. Rinse the water reservoir.
  4. Wipe the exterior surfaces of the coffeemaker with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.

Descaling (Mineral Deposit Removal):

Mineral deposits (calcium) can build up in your coffeemaker over time, affecting performance. Descale every 60-80 uses or monthly, depending on water hardness.

  1. Pour 1 cup of white vinegar and 3 cups of cold water into the water reservoir.
  2. Place an empty thermal carafe on the warming plate.
  3. Press the ON/OFF button to start a brewing cycle.
  4. After approximately 20 seconds, press the ON/OFF button to turn off the coffeemaker.
  5. Allow the mixture to soak in the coffeemaker for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Press the ON/OFF button again to complete the brewing cycle.
  7. Empty the carafe and rinse thoroughly.
  8. Run 2-3 full cycles of clean, cold water through the coffeemaker to remove any remaining vinegar taste.
