  • Adult Assembly Required: This product requires adult assembly. Ensure all parts are correctly installed before use.
  • Adult Supervision: Active, engaged, and direct adult supervision is required when children are near or interacting with the cabinet.

3. Assembly Instructions

Follow these steps carefully for proper assembly. It is recommended to have a second person assist with assembly.

3.1. Required Tools (Not Included)

  • #2 Phillips Head Screwdriver
  • Electric Drill/Driver (recommended for pilot holes and driving screws)
  • Drill Bit (7/64" or 2.8mm for caster pilot holes)
  • Soft-faced Hammer or Hammer with a block of soft wood (for seating back panels)
  • 4mm Hex Wrench (a longer arm wrench than the one supplied may be beneficial)

3.2. Parts Identification

Before beginning, unpack all components and verify against the included parts list (refer to the packaging for the complete list). Familiarize yourself with the different panels (side, top, bottom, shelves, backboards) and hardware (screws, cam locks, threaded inserts, casters).

3.3. Assembly Steps

  1. Prepare the Work Area: Assemble the unit on a clean, flat, and soft surface to prevent scratching. A table or bench height is recommended for comfort.
  2. Install Threaded Inserts: Locate the plastic threaded inserts. Using a #2 Phillips screwdriver, gently screw these into the designated holes by hand. Do not overtighten, as this can strip the plastic.
  3. Assemble Side Panels and Shelves: Begin by attaching the side panels to the bottom panel and then the internal shelves. Ensure that all grooves for the back panels are facing the correct direction (typically towards the back of the unit). Use the provided hardware (cam locks and studs) to secure these connections.
  4. Attach Top Panel: Once the internal structure is stable, attach the top panel using the appropriate hardware.
  5. Insert Back Panels: Slide the back panels into the grooves. If necessary, use a soft-faced hammer or a regular hammer with a wood block to gently tap them into place.
  6. Install Casters (Optional):
    • Locate the marked positions for the casters on the bottom panel.
    • There are no pre-drilled pilot holes for the caster screws. Using an electric drill/driver and a 7/64" (2.8mm) drill bit, drill pilot holes approximately 3/8" (1 cm) deep at each marked location. Do not drill all the way through the panel.
    • Attach the casters using the provided screws. An electric drill/driver is highly recommended for driving these screws due to their length and the torque required.

  7. Final Tightening: Ensure all screws and cam locks are securely tightened.

Note: If you encounter difficulty, review the diagrams provided with your product packaging. Parts can be disassembled and reassembled if an error is made, but proceed slowly to avoid damage.

4. Operating Instructions

The ECR4Kids 5-Compartment Mobile Storage Cabinet is designed for versatile use in various settings.

  • Storage: Utilize the five spacious compartments to organize books, games, arts and crafts supplies, toys, and personal belongings. The open-face shelves encourage independent access and organization.
  • Mobility: With the optional casters installed, the cabinet can be easily moved to rearrange play spaces, transition between rooms, or facilitate cleaning. Always move the cabinet slowly and carefully, especially when loaded.
  • Placement: The low-profile design is suitable for children to reach items independently. Consider placing it against a wall for added stability, particularly in high-traffic areas or if not anchored.

5. Maintenance

Proper care will ensure the longevity and appearance of your storage cabinet.

  • Cleaning: Wipe surfaces with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals, which can damage the finish.
  • Wood Finish: The cabinet is constructed from sustainably harvested birch plywood with a durable finish that resists scratching. A UV inhibitor helps prevent yellowing from sunlight exposure.
  • Hardware: Periodically check all screws and connections to ensure they remain tight. Retighten as necessary.
  • Casters: If casters are installed, keep them free of debris to ensure smooth movement.

6. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues that may arise during assembly or use.

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Difficulty during assemblyIncorrect part orientation, insufficient tools, or overtightening.Review the assembly diagrams carefully. Ensure grooves for back panels face the correct direction. Use recommended tools, especially a drill/driver for pilot holes and screws. Do not overtighten plastic threaded inserts.
Cabinet feels unstable or "tippy"Uneven floor, heavy items placed on top, or casters on soft surfaces (e.g., carpet).Ensure the cabinet is on a level surface. Distribute weight evenly. For increased stability, especially on carpet or with children present, consider anchoring the unit to a wall (hardware not included). Alternatively, use glides instead of casters for hard floors.
