Fotodiox Lens Mount Adapter User Manual

Nikon F Lens to Canon EOS Camera Body

Model: 7454

1. Introduction

This manual provides instructions for the proper use and care of your Fotodiox Lens Mount Adapter. This adapter allows you to mount Nikon Nikkor F Mount D/SLR lenses onto Canon EOS (EF, EF-S) Mount SLR camera bodies, expanding your lens compatibility options.

The adapter is designed with high-tolerance precision craftsmanship, ensuring infinity focus or beyond. It features an all-metal design with hardened anodized aluminum construction for durability and lasting quality.

Important Note:

  • This is a manual adapter. Lens functions that rely on electronic communication with the camera body (autofocus, AE metering, image stabilization, etc.) will be disrupted.
  • Exposure must be set manually or by using your camera's Aperture Priority (stop-down) mode.
  • If your lens does not have a manual aperture control ring, it will stop down to its smallest f/stop by default.
  • This adapter will mount Nikon G-Type lenses but does not feature an aperture control mechanism for these lenses.

5. Operating Instructions

Since this is a manual adapter, electronic communication between the lens and camera is not supported. You will need to operate your camera and lens in manual modes.

5.1. Setting Exposure

  • Manual Exposure Mode: Set your camera to Manual (M) mode. Adjust the shutter speed and ISO on your camera, and the aperture on your lens (if it has an aperture ring) to achieve the desired exposure.
  • Aperture Priority Mode: Set your camera to Aperture Priority (Av or A) mode. You can set the aperture on your lens (if applicable), and the camera will automatically select the appropriate shutter speed.
  • Lenses without Aperture Ring: If your Nikon F lens does not have a manual aperture control ring (e.g., some G-type lenses), it will operate at its smallest f/stop by default when mounted with this adapter.

5.2. Focusing

Focusing must be done manually by rotating the focus ring on your lens. Utilize your camera's focus aids, such as Live View magnification or focus peaking, for precise focusing.

5.3. Camera Settings for Lens Adapters

Some camera models require a specific setting to allow shooting without a native lens attached. Refer to your camera's manual to enable 'Shoot Without Lens' or a similar function.

  • Cleaning: Use a clean, dry microfiber cloth to wipe the adapter. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Storage: Store the adapter in a dry, dust-free environment when not in use. Keep it away from extreme temperatures and humidity.
  • Handling: Always handle the adapter by its metal body. Avoid touching the mounting surfaces to prevent contamination.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues while using your Fotodiox Lens Mount Adapter, consider the following:

  • Lens Not Attaching Securely: Ensure the lens and adapter are correctly aligned (red dot to red dot) and twisted until a click is heard. Check for any obstructions on the mounting surfaces.
  • Adapter Not Attaching Securely to Camera: Ensure the adapter and camera body are correctly aligned and twisted until a click is heard. Check for any obstructions on the camera's mount.
  • Camera Not Firing/Displaying Image: Verify that your camera's 'Shoot Without Lens' or equivalent setting is enabled. Refer to your camera's instruction manual for this setting.
  • Focus Issues: Ensure you are manually focusing the lens. Use Live View magnification or focus peaking on your camera for accurate manual focus.
  • Exposure Issues: Confirm your camera is set to Manual (M) or Aperture Priority (Av/A) mode. Adjust aperture on the lens (if available), shutter speed, and ISO as needed.
