3. Setup
3.1 Unboxing and Initial Inspection
Upon receiving your watch, carefully remove it from its packaging. Inspect the watch for any visible damage. Ensure all protective films are removed from the crystal, case, and bracelet.
3.2 Winding the Watch
Your Hamilton Khaki Field King Auto watch is equipped with a Swiss automatic movement. While it winds itself with the motion of your wrist, it may require manual winding if it has stopped or has not been worn for an extended period. To manually wind:
- Ensure the crown is in position 0 (fully pushed in).
- Rotate the crown clockwise approximately 20-30 times. This will build up enough power reserve to start the watch.
The watch has an approximate power reserve of 80 hours when fully wound.
3.3 Setting the Time, Day, and Date
The crown on the side of the watch controls the time, day, and date settings. It has three positions:
- Position 0: Normal operating position (fully pushed in).
- Position 1: Intermediate position (pulled out one click) for setting day and date.
- Position 2: Outermost position (pulled out two clicks) for setting the time.

Figure 3.1: Close-up view of the watch crown, which is used for winding and setting the time, day, and date.
To Set the Date and Day:
- Gently pull the crown out to Position 1.
- Rotate the crown clockwise to adjust the date.
- Rotate the crown counter-clockwise to adjust the day.
- Once the desired date and day are set, push the crown back to Position 0.
Important: Avoid setting the date and day between 9 PM and 3 AM, as this can damage the movement. If you need to set the date/day during this period, first set the time outside this window (e.g., to 6 AM), adjust the date/day, and then reset the time.
To Set the Time:
- Gently pull the crown out to Position 2. The second hand will stop (hacking feature).
- Rotate the crown to move the hands clockwise until the correct time is displayed. Pay attention to AM/PM for the day/date change.
- Once the correct time is set, push the crown back to Position 0. The second hand will resume movement.
4. Operating Your Watch
Your Hamilton Khaki Field King Auto watch is powered by an automatic mechanical movement. This means it does not require a battery. The movement of your wrist powers the watch, and a rotor inside winds the mainspring.

4.1 Power Reserve
When fully wound, the watch has a power reserve of approximately 80 hours. If the watch is not worn for this duration, it will stop. Simply re-wind it manually or wear it to restart the movement.
4.2 Water Resistance
The watch is water-resistant to 5 bar (50 meters). This rating means it is suitable for everyday use, such as accidental splashes, rain, and showering. It is not recommended for swimming, diving, or prolonged immersion in water. Always ensure the crown is fully pushed in before any contact with water.
5. Maintenance
5.1 Cleaning
To maintain the appearance of your watch:
- Wipe the case and sapphire crystal with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.
- For the stainless steel bracelet, use a soft brush and mild soapy water to clean between the links. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry immediately with a soft cloth.
- Avoid using harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive materials, as these can damage the watch's finish.
5.2 Storage
When not wearing your watch, store it in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for an extended period, consider a watch winder to keep the automatic movement running and lubricated.
5.3 Professional Servicing
Mechanical watches require periodic professional servicing to ensure optimal performance and longevity. It is recommended to have your Hamilton watch serviced by an authorized service center every 3-5 years. This service typically includes cleaning, lubrication, and adjustment of the movement, as well as replacement of seals to maintain water resistance.
5.4 Avoiding Damage
- Shocks: Avoid dropping the watch or subjecting it to severe impacts, which can damage the delicate internal components.
- Magnetic Fields: Keep the watch away from strong magnetic fields (e.g., speakers, refrigerators, certain electronic devices), as these can affect the accuracy of the mechanical movement.
- Temperature Extremes: Protect the watch from extreme hot or cold temperatures, which can affect lubrication and material integrity.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter any issues with your watch, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Watch has stopped or is running slowly. | Insufficient power reserve. | Manually wind the watch (Section 3.2) or wear it regularly for several hours. |
| Time, day, or date is incorrect. | Incorrect setting or accidental adjustment. | Re-set the time, day, and date according to Section 3.3. |
| Condensation under the crystal. | Water ingress due to compromised seals or extreme temperature changes. | Immediately take the watch to an authorized service center to prevent further damage. Do not attempt to dry it yourself. |
