Important Safety Information
WARNING: TO AVOID FIRE, SHOCK, OR DEATH, TURN OFF POWER AT CIRCUIT BREAKER AND TEST THAT POWER IS OFF BEFORE WIRING.
- This device is intended for indoor use only.
- Ensure all wiring connections are secure.
- Consult a qualified electrician if you are unsure about any part of the installation process.
Installation Instructions
Follow these steps for proper installation of your EI210 timer:
- Turn Off Power: Remove the wall plate and disconnect the existing light switch. Ensure power is OFF at the circuit breaker and verify with a tester before proceeding.
- Check Wiring: Confirm that both "hot" and neutral wires are present in the junction box. If neutral wires are not present, additional wiring may be required.
- Connect Timer Wires:
- Connect the red timer wire to the wire leading to the fixture (load) using a wire connector.
- Connect the black timer wire to the incoming "hot" (usually black or red) wire from the power source in the junction box using a wire connector.
- Cut the white wire in the junction box (or open splice) and strip 3/8" of insulation. Connect the white timer wire to the white (neutral) wires in the junction box using a wire connector.
- If the wall switch you are replacing had separate grounding conductors connected to a GREEN screw, connect these to the green wire from the timer with a wire connector.
- Secure Connections: Double-check that all wire connections are secure and properly insulated.
- Mount the Timer: Carefully place all wires inside the junction box. Fit the timer into the junction box and secure it using the two mounting screws provided.
- Restore Power: Reconnect electrical power at the circuit breaker.

Operating Instructions

Intermatic EI210 Timer Faceplate. This image displays the timer's front panel with buttons for 10, 20, 30, 60 minutes, and a HOLD function.
Timer Mode
To activate the timer mode, press and release the push button (for less than 2 seconds) repeatedly. Each press will cycle through the available countdown settings: 10, 20, 30, or 60 minutes. An illuminated LED next to the selected time indicates the current setting, and the connected load will turn ON. The timer will begin counting down, and once the selected time has elapsed, all 5 LEDs will turn off, and the connected load will turn OFF.
Hold Mode (Continuous Operation)
To keep the connected load ON for an indefinite period, press and hold the push button for more than 2 seconds. The timer will enter HOLD mode, indicated by the HOLD LED illuminating. The connected load will remain ON continuously. To exit HOLD mode, press and release the push button. All 5 LEDs will turn off, and the connected load will also turn OFF.
Maintenance
The Intermatic EI210 timer is designed for maintenance-free operation. To clean the surface, use a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these may damage the finish or internal components.
Troubleshooting
If your Intermatic EI210 timer is not functioning as expected, consider the following:
- No Power: Ensure the circuit breaker supplying power to the timer is ON. Verify all wiring connections are secure as per the installation instructions.
- Load Not Turning On/Off: Check if the timer is in the correct mode (Timer Mode or Hold Mode). If in Timer Mode, ensure a countdown time is selected. If in Hold Mode, ensure the HOLD LED is illuminated.
- Inconsistent Operation: Re-verify wiring connections. Ensure the timer is not exposed to extreme temperatures or moisture.
