2. Product Features

  • Self-Amalgamating: Bonds to itself to create a secure, void-free, watertight insulation on electrical connections.
  • Versatile Application: Ideal for insulating wire splices, repairing cable jackets, and providing an airtight, waterproof wrap for various fixes.
  • High Elasticity and Conformability: Stretches and molds tightly around connectors and irregular shapes for complete coverage.
  • Durable Composition: Resists tearing, abrasion, and UV exposure, ensuring long-lasting protection indoors and outdoors.
  • Temperature Rating: Rated for continuous use up to 80°C (176°F).
  • Industry Compliant: Meets UL standards for electrical insulating materials.

3. Setup and Preparation

  1. Clean Surface: Ensure the surface where the tape will be applied is clean, dry, and free from grease, oil, or dirt.
  2. Gather Tools: You may need scissors or a utility knife to cut the tape to the desired length.
  3. Wear Protection: For electrical work, always ensure power is off and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

4. Operating Instructions (Application)

Follow these steps for effective application of 3M Temflex 2155 Rubber Electrical Splicing Tape:

  1. Unroll and Cut: Unroll the desired length of tape from the roll. It is recommended to unroll slightly more than needed, as the tape will stretch during application.
  2. Remove Liner: The tape comes with a protective plastic liner. Peel off a section of this liner to expose the rubber tape. Only peel off as much as you are about to apply to keep the rest clean and dry.
  3. Stretch and Wrap: Begin wrapping the tape around the object (e.g., wire splice, pipe). While wrapping, stretch the tape to approximately 3/4 of its original width. The more you stretch, the better the amalgamation and seal.
  4. Overlap: Ensure each new layer of tape overlaps the previous layer by at least 1/2 of its width. This overlapping is crucial for proper self-amalgamation and a continuous seal.
  5. Continue Wrapping: Continue stretching and wrapping until the desired thickness and coverage are achieved. For electrical insulation, ensure sufficient layers are applied to meet voltage requirements.
  6. Finish Application: Once the application is complete, cut the tape and press the end firmly onto the last wrapped layer. The tape will self-amalgamate, forming a solid, waterproof, and insulating layer.

Important Note: It is not recommended to reposition the tape after approximately 60 seconds, as it begins to self-amalgamate quickly.

5. Maintenance

Store 3M Temflex 2155 tape in its original packaging in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures to maintain its adhesive properties and shelf life.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Poor Adhesion/Amalgamation: Ensure the surface is clean and dry before application. The tape must be stretched sufficiently (approximately 3/4 of its original width) and overlapped by at least 1/2 its width for proper self-amalgamation. Avoid touching the adhesive surface with bare hands excessively.
  • Tape Not Sticking: If the tape is old or has been stored improperly, its properties may degrade. Use fresh tape from a properly stored roll.
