1. Introduction

4. Setup

4.1 Speaker Placement

Proper speaker placement is crucial for optimal sound performance. The RC-70 is a floorstanding speaker designed for stereo or home theater applications.

• Stereo Setup: Place the speakers equidistant from your primary listening position, forming an equilateral triangle. Ensure they are spaced appropriately from side walls and corners to avoid excessive bass resonance.
• Home Theater Setup: Position the front left and right speakers on either side of your television or projection screen, ideally at ear level when seated. Maintain a similar distance from the listening position as in a stereo setup.
• Distance from Walls: Experiment with placing the speakers a few inches to a few feet away from the rear wall. Closer placement generally increases bass output, while further placement can improve soundstage depth.

4.2 Attaching the Base and Feet

The speaker includes a high-gloss black base/plinth for stability and aesthetic appeal. Depending on your flooring, you can attach either the spike kit or rubber bumpers.

1. Carefully lay the speaker on its side on a soft, clean surface to avoid scratching the cabinet.
2. If the base is not pre-attached, align it with the bottom of the speaker and secure it using the provided screws.
3. For carpeted floors, screw the metal spikes into the threaded inserts on the base. Adjust the spikes to level the speaker.
4. For hard floors (wood, tile, laminate), attach the rubber bumpers to the threaded inserts on the base. This prevents scratches and provides isolation.

4.3 Connecting to an Amplifier/Receiver

The RC-70 speaker connects to your amplifier or receiver using standard speaker wire.

1. Ensure your amplifier/receiver is turned off before making any connections.
2. Strip approximately 1/2 inch (12mm) of insulation from the ends of your speaker wire. Twist the bare wire strands tightly.
3. Connect the positive (+) terminal (red) on the speaker to the positive (+) terminal on your amplifier/receiver.
4. Connect the negative (-) terminal (black) on the speaker to the negative (-) terminal on your amplifier/receiver.
5. Ensure that no stray wire strands are touching between the positive and negative terminals, as this can cause a short circuit.
6. If using two speakers for a stereo pair, ensure consistent polarity for both speakers (red-to-red, black-to-black).

• Power On: Turn on your amplifier/receiver.
• Volume Control: Start with the volume at a low level and gradually increase it to your desired listening level.
