1. Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of the Leviton ODC0S-I1W Self-Contained Ceiling-Mount Occupancy Sensor. This device is designed to automatically control lighting in commercial and institutional spaces by detecting occupancy, thereby contributing to energy savings.
The ODC0S-I1W is a self-contained unit, meaning it does not require an external power pack for operation. It utilizes Passive Infrared (PIR) technology to detect motion within its coverage area.

2. Safety Information
WARNING: To avoid fire, shock, or death, turn off power at the circuit breaker or fuse box and test that the power is off before wiring. All wiring must be performed in accordance with national and local electrical codes. If you are unsure about any part of these instructions, consult a qualified electrician.
Proposition 65 Warning: This product may contain chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm.
- This device is intended for indoor use only.
- Do not install in locations where extreme temperatures or humidity may occur.
- Ensure the power supply matches the sensor's voltage rating (120V AC).

4. Installation
The ODC0S-I1W is designed for ceiling-mount installation and requires a hardwired electrical connection. It provides a 360-degree field of view with approximately 530 square feet of coverage when mounted at 8 feet.
Installation Steps:
- Turn Off Power: Before starting any electrical work, ensure the power to the circuit is turned off at the main service panel (circuit breaker or fuse box).
- Select Mounting Location: Choose a ceiling location that provides optimal coverage of the desired area. Avoid placing the sensor directly above heat sources or in areas with significant air currents, as these can cause false triggers.
- Wiring: Connect the sensor's wires to the building's electrical wiring according to the provided wiring diagram (typically found on the device itself or in a separate wiring guide). Ensure all connections are secure. This device operates on 120V AC.
- Mount the Sensor: Securely attach the sensor to the ceiling. Ensure it is firmly in place.
- Restore Power: Once installation is complete and all connections are secure, restore power at the circuit breaker.
5. Operation
The ODC0S-I1W uses Passive Infrared (PIR) detection technology. It senses changes in infrared energy (heat) emitted by occupants moving within its field of view. When motion is detected, the sensor switches the connected lights ON. The lights remain ON as long as occupancy is detected.
Adjustable Settings:
- Delayed OFF Time: This setting determines how long the lights remain ON after the last detected motion. It is adjustable between 20 seconds and 15 minutes. Adjust this to prevent lights from turning off prematurely in occupied spaces or to maximize energy savings in infrequently used areas.
- Ambient Light Override: The sensor includes an ambient light sensor that can prevent lights from turning ON if there is sufficient natural light. This setting can be adjusted between 0.5 and 500+ foot-candles. Setting it to a higher value means the sensor will only turn lights on when the room is darker.
LED Indicator:
An integrated LED indicator light flashes when the sensor detects motion. This provides visual confirmation of the sensor's functionality during installation and operation.
6. Maintenance
The Leviton ODC0S-I1W Occupancy Sensor requires minimal maintenance. There are no user-serviceable parts inside the unit.
- Cleaning: To clean the sensor, gently wipe the exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or excessive moisture, as these can damage the device.
- Regular Checks: Periodically verify the sensor's operation by moving within its detection zone to ensure it responds as expected.
7. Troubleshooting
If the sensor is not functioning as expected, review the following common issues and solutions:
- Lights do not turn ON when entering the room:
- Ensure power is supplied to the sensor. Check the circuit breaker.
- Verify wiring connections are correct and secure.
- Adjust the ambient light override setting. If the room is already bright, the sensor may be preventing the lights from turning on.
- Confirm the sensor's field of view covers the entry area.
- Lights turn OFF too quickly or too slowly:
- Adjust the Delayed OFF Time setting to your preference.
- Ensure there is continuous motion within the detection zone if you expect the lights to stay on longer.
- Lights turn ON unexpectedly (false triggers):
- PIR sensors can be affected by rapid temperature changes. Avoid installing near HVAC vents, windows exposed to direct sunlight, or other heat sources.
- Ensure the sensor is not detecting motion from outside the intended area (e.g., through doorways or windows).
- The sensor is not recommended for very small rooms like bathrooms or closets, as reflected heat or air currents can cause false triggers.
- LED indicator does not flash:
- Check power supply to the sensor.
- Verify wiring connections.
