2. Product Overview

The WAGO 261-331 is a 4-wire terminal block designed for reliable electrical connections. It features a spring clamp connection technology, ensuring vibration-proof and maintenance-free wiring. The connector is grey in color and can be mounted using a mounting flange or on a TS 35 rail with an appropriate mounting base (e.g., WAGO 209-123).

Key Features:

  • 4 connection points for multiple wires.
  • Spring clamp technology for secure, tool-free wiring.
  • Grey color for standard identification.
  • Mounting options: direct screw mounting (3.2 mm hole) or TS 35 rail mounting with accessory.

3. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps for proper installation of the WAGO 261-331 terminal connector.

3.1 Safety Precautions

  • Ensure power is disconnected before beginning any electrical work.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Consult local electrical codes and regulations.

3.2 Mounting Options

The WAGO 261-331 offers flexible mounting:

  1. Direct Screw Mounting:

The terminal features a mounting flange. Use screws suitable for a 3.2 mm diameter mounting hole to secure the connector directly to a surface.

  2. TS 35 Rail Mounting:

For mounting on a TS 35 DIN rail, an additional mounting base (e.g., WAGO 209-123, sold separately) is required. Attach the terminal to the mounting base, then secure the base to the DIN rail according to the base's instructions.

3.3 Wire Preparation

  • Strip insulation from wires to the recommended length (typically 9-11 mm for WAGO spring clamp terminals). Avoid damaging wire strands.
  • Ensure wires are clean and free of debris.

4. Operating Instructions

Connecting wires to the WAGO 261-331 terminal is straightforward:

  1. Open the Clamp: Insert a suitable operating tool (e.g., a screwdriver) into the square operating slot of the desired connection point. Push down firmly to open the spring clamp.
  2. Insert Wire: While the clamp is open, insert the prepared wire fully into the round wire entry hole until it reaches the stop.
  3. Close the Clamp: Remove the operating tool. The spring clamp will automatically close, securing the wire firmly in place. Gently tug on the wire to ensure a secure connection.
  4. Repeat: Repeat for all desired wires, ensuring correct polarity and circuit configuration.

To remove a wire, follow step 1 and 2 in reverse: open the clamp with the operating tool, then pull the wire out. Release the tool to close the clamp.

5. Maintenance

The WAGO 261-331 terminal connectors are designed to be maintenance-free once properly installed. However, periodic visual inspections are recommended:

  • Check for any signs of physical damage or discoloration.
  • Ensure all wires remain securely connected.
  • Keep the terminals free from dust, dirt, and moisture.

No lubrication or tightening of screws is required due to the spring clamp technology.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your WAGO 261-331 terminal, consider the following:

  • Loose Connection:

If a wire feels loose, ensure it was inserted fully and the operating tool was completely removed. Re-insert the wire following the operating instructions.

  • Wire Not Inserting:

Check if the wire is stripped to the correct length and that the operating tool is fully depressing the spring clamp. Ensure there are no bent strands preventing insertion.

  • No Electrical Continuity:

Verify that all wires are correctly connected and that the insulation is stripped adequately to allow contact with the current bar. Check for external circuit issues.

For persistent issues, consult a qualified electrician.
