Setup
Charging the Batteries
Before initial use, fully charge the Ni-MH batteries in both the transmitter and receiver. This typically takes approximately 2 hours.
- Connect the splitter cable to the charger.
- Plug the small ends of the splitter cable into the charging ports on the transmitter and receiver. Ensure a secure connection.
- Plug the charger into a standard electrical outlet (120V AC).
- The LED indicator on both units will glow red during charging and turn green when fully charged.
- Once fully charged, disconnect the charger from the units and the outlet.
Fitting the Collar
Proper collar fit is crucial for effective and humane operation.
- Position the receiver on the dog's neck so that the contact points are underneath, making direct contact with the skin.
- The collar should be snug enough to allow only one finger to fit comfortably between the strap and the dog's neck.
- A loose fit will prevent consistent contact and may cause skin irritation due to rubbing.
- Trim any excess collar strap if necessary, and seal the cut edge with a flame to prevent fraying.

Operating the Device
Turning On/Off
- Transmitter: Press and hold the On/Off button until the LCD screen illuminates. To turn off, press and hold the On/Off button until the screen turns off.
- Receiver: To turn on, place the red dot on the transmitter to the red dot on the receiver. Hold the two red dots together for a moment until the LED light on the receiver flashes green. To turn off, repeat the process; the LED will flash red.
Selecting Stimulation Level
The 280NCP Platinum offers 127 levels of stimulation (0-127). The appropriate level depends on your dog's temperament and the training situation.
- Use the Rheostat Dial on the top of the transmitter to adjust the stimulation level. Turn clockwise to increase, counter-clockwise to decrease.
- The exact level is displayed on the transmitter's LCD screen.
- Start with the lowest level (0) and gradually increase until your dog shows a slight reaction, such as a head turn or ear twitch. This is your dog's recognition level.
Stimulation Modes
- Nick (N): Press the Nick button for a single, quick pulse of stimulation (approximately 1/10th of a second). This is typically used for quick corrections.
- Constant (C): Press the Constant button for continuous stimulation for up to 12 seconds. The stimulation will stop automatically after 12 seconds, or when the button is released. Use for more persistent behaviors.
- Pager (P): Press the Pager button for a non-stimulating vibration. This mode can be used as a warning or for positive reinforcement.
