1. Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective operation of your SINGER 7470 Confidence Computerized Sewing Machine. Please read all instructions carefully before using the machine to ensure proper function and to prevent injury.

2. Important Safety Instructions

When using an electrical appliance, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following:

  • Always unplug the machine from the electrical outlet immediately after using and before cleaning, removing covers, or making any user servicing adjustments.
  • Do not allow children to play with the machine. Close supervision is necessary when the machine is used by or near children.
  • Use this appliance only for its intended use as described in this manual. Use only attachments recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Never operate this machine if it has a damaged cord or plug, if it is not working properly, if it has been dropped or damaged, or dropped into water.
  • Keep fingers away from all moving parts. Special care is required around the sewing machine needle.

  1. Turn off and unplug the machine.
  2. Loosen the needle clamp screw.
  3. Remove the old needle, pulling it downwards.
  4. Insert a new needle with the flat side facing the back of the machine, pushing it up as far as it will go.
  5. Tighten the needle clamp screw securely.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues, refer to these common solutions:

  • Skipped Stitches: Ensure the needle is inserted correctly, is not bent, and is the appropriate type for your fabric. Re-thread the machine completely.
  • Thread Breaking: Check for correct threading, proper tension settings, and ensure the needle is not dull or bent. Use quality thread.
  • Machine Not Starting: Verify the power cord and foot controller are securely plugged in. Ensure the machine is turned on.
  • Fabric Not Feeding: Check that the presser foot is lowered and the feed dogs are not disengaged (if applicable).
