1. Introduction

3. Setup Guide

3.1. Unpacking

3.2. Connecting to Your Television

The RDR-VX560 is a tunerless model, meaning it does not receive broadcast signals directly. It must be connected to a television or other display device.

  1. HDMI Connection: For optimal video quality (1080p upscaling), connect an HDMI cable from the HDMI Connection Output(s) on the rear of the RDR-VX560 to an HDMI input on your television.
  2. Component Video Connection: Alternatively, connect component video cables (Y/Pb/Pr) from the Component Video Output(s) on the rear of the RDR-VX560 to corresponding inputs on your television.
  3. Composite Video Connection: For basic video and audio, connect a composite video cable (yellow) and RCA audio cables (red/white) from the Composite Video Output(s) on the rear of the RDR-VX560 to corresponding inputs on your television.
  4. Audio Connection: If using component or composite video, ensure RCA audio cables are connected from the RCA Audio Output(s) on the rear of the RDR-VX560 to your television or audio receiver.
  5. Power Connection: Connect the power cord to an AC 120V, 60Hz power outlet.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1. Playing DVDs

  1. Press the POWER button to turn on the unit.
  2. Press the OPEN/CLOSE button on the DVD tray to open it.
  3. Place a DVD disc onto the tray with the label side facing up.
  4. Press the OPEN/CLOSE button again to close the tray.
  5. The unit will automatically begin playing the DVD. If not, press the PLAY button.

4.2. Playing VHS Tapes

  1. Press the POWER button to turn on the unit.
  2. Insert a VHS tape into the VHS slot. The unit will automatically load the tape.
  3. The unit will automatically begin playing the VHS tape. If not, press the PLAY button.

4.3. Recording to DVD

The RDR-VX560 supports recording to DVD+R, DVD+RW, and DVD-RW media.

  • One Touch Dubbing (VHS to DVD): Insert a VHS tape and a blank recordable DVD. Press the ONE TOUCH DUBBING button to initiate recording from VHS to DVD.
  • Line Input Recording: Connect an external source (e.g., cable box, satellite receiver) to the Composite Video Input(s) or S-Video Input(s) on the RDR-VX560. Insert a blank recordable DVD. Select the appropriate input source and press the REC button to begin recording. The Set Top Box Controller (IR Blaster) can be used to control channel functions for timer recording.

4.4. Recording to VHS

  • Two-way One-touch Dubbing (DVD to VHS): Insert a DVD disc and a blank VHS tape. Press the ONE TOUCH DUBBING button to initiate recording from DVD to VHS.

4.5. USB and i.LINK Connectivity

The front USB Port(s) and i.LINK for DV/Digital8 Audio/Video Input(s) allow for burning photos and personal video from compatible Sony USB-based camcorders and digital cameras to DVD.

4.6. BRAVIA Sync for Theatre

This technology utilizes the industry-standard HDMI CEC function to provide one-button access and control of the appropriate inputs for your BRAVIA HDTV and HDMI-connected A/V components.

5. Maintenance

  • Cleaning the Unit: Wipe the exterior of the unit with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Disc Care: Handle discs by their edges. Keep them clean and free of scratches.
