• Input Jack: Connect your instrument here.

Setup

1. Powering the Unit

The Pitchblack tuner can be powered by a 9V battery or an optional AC adapter (DC 9V, center negative). A battery is included for immediate use.

1. Battery Installation: Open the battery compartment on the bottom of the unit. Connect a 9V battery to the snap connector and place it inside. Close the compartment securely.
2. AC Adapter (Optional): Connect a DC 9V (center negative) AC adapter to the DC 9V IN jack. Using an AC adapter will conserve battery life.
3. Power Output: The DC 9V OUT jack can supply power to other 9V effects pedals, up to a maximum of 200mA. This is useful for consolidating power on a pedalboard.

2. Connecting Your Instrument

1. Connect your instrument (guitar, bass, etc.) to the INPUT jack of the Pitchblack tuner using a standard 1/4-inch instrument cable.
2. Connect the OUTPUT jack of the Pitchblack tuner to your amplifier or the input of your next effects pedal using another 1/4-inch instrument cable.

Note: The Pitchblack features true bypass, meaning when the tuner is off, your instrument's signal passes directly through the unit without any tonal alteration.

Operation

1. Turning On/Off

Press the footswitch to toggle the tuner function. When the tuner is active, the display will illuminate, and the output signal will be muted. Press the footswitch again to bypass the tuner and restore the output signal.

2. Tuning Your Instrument

1. Press the footswitch to activate the tuner.
2. Play a single note on your instrument. The display will show the note name and the tuning meter.
3. Adjust your instrument's tuning until the meter indicates the note is in tune. The center of the meter will light up when the note is precisely in tune.
4. Once tuned, press the footswitch again to bypass the tuner and unmute your signal.

The Pitchblack has a wide detection range from E0 (20.60 Hz) to C8 (4186 Hz), accommodating various instruments including 5-string basses.

3. Changing Display Modes

The Pitchblack offers four display modes for tuning. Press the DISPLAY button on the rear of the unit to cycle through them:

• Meter Mode: Standard needle-style meter.
• Full Strobe Mode: The meter segments flow, and tuning is achieved when the flow stops.
• Half Strobe Mode: Similar to Full Strobe, but with a different visual flow pattern.
• Mirror Mode: The left and right sides of the meter converge when in tune.

4. Adjusting Calibration (A4 Pitch)

The standard concert pitch (A4) is 440 Hz. If you need to tune to a different reference pitch, you can adjust the calibration:

1. While the tuner is active, press the CALIB button on the rear of the unit.
2. Each press will cycle the A4 reference pitch from 436 Hz to 445 Hz.
3. Release the button when the desired calibration is displayed. The setting will be saved even after powering off.

Maintenance

• Cleaning: Wipe the unit with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
• Battery Replacement: If the display dims or the unit behaves erratically, replace the 9V battery. Remove the battery if the unit will not be used for an extended period.
• Storage: Store the unit in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
