Product Overview
The Leviton T5320-W is a 15 Amp, 125 Volt, tamper-resistant duplex receptacle designed for residential applications. This device features a robust thermoplastic construction for durability and a shallow design to maximize wiring room within electrical boxes. Its tamper-resistant design incorporates an internal shutter mechanism that blocks access to the contacts unless a two-prong plug is inserted, enhancing safety by preventing the insertion of foreign objects.

Setup and Installation
Follow these steps for proper installation of your Leviton duplex receptacle:
- Turn Off Power: Locate the circuit breaker or fuse that controls the outlet you are replacing or installing. Turn off the power. Verify power is off using a voltage tester.
- Prepare Wires: Strip approximately 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) of insulation from the ends of the circuit wires. Ensure wires are straight and free of nicks.
- Connect Wires:
- Ground Wire (Green or Bare Copper): Connect to the green grounding screw.
- Hot Wires (Black or Red): Connect to the brass-colored screws.
- Neutral Wires (White): Connect to the silver-colored screws.
- Quickwire™ Terminations (14-Gauge Solid Copper ONLY): For 14-gauge solid copper wire, push the stripped end firmly into the small holes on the back of the receptacle until it stops. Ensure no bare wire is exposed.
- Side Wiring: For larger gauge wires or stranded wire, wrap the stripped wire clockwise around the appropriate screw terminal and tighten securely.
- Mount Receptacle: Carefully fold the wires into the electrical box and secure the receptacle to the box using the mounting screws provided.
- Install Wallplate: Attach the wallplate (sold separately) over the receptacle.
- Restore Power: Turn the power back on at the circuit breaker or fuse box.

Operating Instructions
To use the receptacle, simply insert the plug of your electrical device into one of the two outlets. The tamper-resistant shutters will open to allow the plug to enter. Ensure the plug is fully inserted for a secure connection. When removing a plug, pull it straight out from the receptacle.
Maintenance
The Leviton T5320-W receptacle requires minimal maintenance. Periodically inspect the receptacle and wallplate for any signs of damage, such as cracks, discoloration, or loose connections. Clean the surface with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. If any damage is observed, turn off power at the circuit breaker and replace the receptacle.
Troubleshooting
- No Power to Receptacle:
- Check the circuit breaker or fuse for the circuit. Reset if tripped or replace if blown.
- Ensure all wire connections are secure. Turn off power before checking connections.
- Plug Does Not Insert Easily:
- The tamper-resistant feature requires both prongs of a plug to be inserted simultaneously and with even pressure to open the internal shutters. Do not force the plug.
- Ensure the plug is correctly oriented.
- Loose Plug Connection:
- If plugs feel loose or fall out easily, the receptacle may be worn and should be replaced. Turn off power before replacement.
If issues persist after troubleshooting, consult a qualified electrician.
