2. Safety Information
WARNING: Improper installation or use can result in electrical shock, fire, or personal injury.
- Always disconnect power before servicing or installing the disposal.
- Do not put hands or utensils into the disposal while it is operating.
- Do not dispose of glass, metal, plastic, or large bones.
- Ensure proper grounding to reduce the risk of electric shock.
- Always run cold water when operating the disposal.
3. Setup and Installation
The Waste King L-2600 features an EZ Mount system for quick and straightforward installation. It comes with a pre-installed power cord, eliminating the need for additional electrical work for plug-in installations.
3.1 Pre-Installation Checklist
- Verify all components are present: disposal unit, EZ Mount assembly, pre-installed power cord, removable splash guard, drain elbow, and mounting hardware.
- Ensure you have necessary tools: screwdriver, adjustable pliers, plumber's putty (if not using the rubber gasket with a stainless steel sink), and safety glasses.
- Confirm electrical supply is 115 Volts, 60 Hertz, and 4.5 current-amps.
3.2 Mounting Assembly
The EZ Mount system allows for easy twist-and-lock installation. The mounting assembly includes a sink flange, rubber gasket, fiber gasket, support ring, and mounting ring. For stainless steel sinks, the included rubber gasket can often replace plumber's putty for sealing the sink flange.

3.3 Electrical Connection
The L-2600 comes with a 36-inch pre-installed power cord for direct plug-in to a standard 115V outlet. No hardwiring or electrical expertise is typically needed for this model. If replacing a hardwired unit, consult a qualified electrician.
3.4 Plumbing Connections
Connect the discharge elbow to the disposal unit using the provided metal bracket and screws. Ensure the rubber gasket is correctly positioned to prevent leaks. Connect the drain piping to the discharge elbow. If connecting a dishwasher, ensure the dishwasher drain hose is properly attached to the disposal's inlet using a hose clamp. The disposal is safe for properly sized septic tanks.

4. Operating Instructions
The L-2600 is a continuous feed garbage disposal, meaning you can add food waste while the unit is running. It is activated by a wall switch.
4.1 Basic Operation
- Turn on the cold water faucet.
- Flip the wall switch to activate the disposal.
- Feed food waste into the drain opening.
- Allow the disposal to run until all waste is ground and flushed away.
- Turn off the disposal, then turn off the cold water.
4.2 Acceptable Food Waste
The L-2600 is designed to grind most food scraps, including fruit and vegetable peels, small bones, and coffee grounds. Its 2,600 RPM permanent magnet motor and stainless steel swivel impellers are engineered to reduce jamming.
4.3 Unacceptable Items
Avoid disposing of fibrous materials (e.g., corn husks, artichokes), large bones, grease, oil, plastic, glass, metal, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the disposal or plumbing.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your garbage disposal.
5.1 Cleaning the Splashguard
The L-2600 features a removable splashguard for easy cleaning. Simply pull the splashguard out from the drain opening, clean it with soap and water, and reinsert. This helps prevent odors and food buildup.

5.2 Odor Prevention
To prevent odors, regularly grind citrus peels (lemon, lime, orange) with cold water. This helps clean the grind chamber and leaves a fresh scent.
6. Troubleshooting
6.1 Disposal Not Starting
If the disposal does not start, check the front-mounted reset button located on the bottom of the unit. Press the button firmly. If it trips again, check for jams.
6.2 Clearing a Jam
If the disposal hums but does not grind, it may be jammed. Turn off the power immediately. Use a hex wrench (not included) to insert into the center hole on the bottom of the disposal and turn it back and forth until the jam is cleared. Alternatively, use a wooden dowel or broom handle to dislodge the object from the grind chamber from the top. Never use your hand.
6.3 Leaks
Ensure all plumbing connections are tight and properly sealed. Check the discharge elbow connection for proper gasket placement and tightness. If leaks persist, re-examine all connections and seals.
