Introduction

The Wilson Electronics SignalBoost DT (Desktop) Cell Phone Signal Booster is designed to enhance 3G cellular signals within a single room, such as a small home office or a specific area in a residence. This device aims to reduce dropped calls, improve data rates, and provide clearer reception for compatible 3G devices.

The booster amplifies existing cellular signals, improving communication between your cell phone and the nearest cell tower. It supports multiple cell phones and data cards simultaneously within its coverage area.

Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for optimal performance. The system consists of an outdoor antenna, a signal booster, and an indoor desktop antenna. The outdoor antenna captures the existing cellular signal, the booster amplifies it, and the indoor antenna broadcasts the amplified signal to your devices.

1. Outdoor Antenna Placement

Mount the outdoor antenna in a location with the strongest possible existing cellular signal. This is typically on the exterior of the building, pointed towards the nearest cell tower. While window or wall mounting is possible, outdoor mounting generally yields the best results. Ensure the outdoor antenna is at least 20 cm (8 inches) from any person.

2. Connecting the Outdoor Antenna to the Booster

Run one of the coaxial cables (20ft or 30ft, depending on distance) from the outdoor antenna to the SignalBoost DT amplifier. Connect the cable securely to the designated port on the booster.

3. Indoor Desktop Antenna Placement

Place the indoor desktop antenna on a desk or table in the room where you need improved signal. Position it with the Wilson logo facing the direction of your cell phone or data card devices. The indoor antenna should be at least 18 inches away from the amplifier and ideally in a direction opposite to the outdoor antenna to prevent feedback.

4. Connecting the Indoor Antenna to the Booster

Connect the indoor desktop antenna to the SignalBoost DT amplifier using the remaining coaxial cable.

5. Powering On

Once both antennas are connected, plug the power adapter into the SignalBoost DT amplifier and then into a standard electrical outlet. The booster will power on, and a green light should indicate proper operation.

Operating Instructions

Once installed and powered on, the SignalBoost DT operates automatically. It continuously monitors and amplifies the cellular signal. You should observe an improvement in signal strength on your 3G compatible devices within the coverage area of the indoor desktop antenna.

  • Coverage Area: The booster is designed to cover a single room, typically providing improved signal up to 15 feet or more from the indoor antenna.
  • Device Compatibility: Compatible with all US and Canadian cellular providers (excluding iDEN, Nextel, and MIKE). Supports CDMA, TDMA, GSM, and AMPS cell phone technologies, as well as data protocols such as GPRS, 1xRTT, HSDPA, EVDO, and EDGE.
  • Multiple Users: The system enhances signal for multiple cell phones and data cards simultaneously.

Maintenance

The Wilson SignalBoost DT requires minimal maintenance. Keep the unit and antennas clean and free from dust. Ensure all cable connections remain secure. Avoid placing the booster or antennas in areas with extreme temperatures or direct moisture.

  • Regularly check cable connections for tightness.
  • Keep the booster unit in a well-ventilated area.
  • Do not obstruct the indoor or outdoor antennas.

Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your SignalBoost DT, consider the following:

  • No Signal Improvement:
    • Verify the outdoor antenna is pointed towards the strongest signal source (nearest cell tower).
    • Ensure sufficient separation between the outdoor and indoor antennas (at least 20 feet direct distance) to prevent feedback.
    • Check all cable connections for secure fit.
    • Confirm the booster's power indicator light is green.
    • Remember, the booster amplifies an existing signal; it cannot create a signal where none exists. If you have zero bars, the booster may not be effective.
  • Dropped Calls or Slow Data:
    • Adjust the position of the indoor desktop antenna. Ensure the Wilson logo faces your devices.
    • Relocate the indoor antenna to a more central position within the desired coverage area.
    • Ensure the indoor antenna is at least 18 inches from the booster unit.
  • Intermittent Signal:
    • Check for potential interference from other electronic devices.
    • Ensure the outdoor antenna is securely mounted and not obstructed.
