Introduction

The Scotty Kayak Stabilizer System Model 0302 is designed to enhance the stability of your kayak, providing a more secure and comfortable experience on the water. This system includes two inflatable pontoons, two anodized arms, four locking combination side/deck mounts, and two Baitcaster Rod Holders. Constructed from rugged PVC, the pontoons offer significant buoyancy, making your kayak more stable for various activities such as fishing or photography.

Safety Information

Important: Always wear a life jacket when using a kayak, regardless of whether stabilizers are installed. Ensure all components are securely fastened before each use. Do not exceed the maximum weight capacity of your kayak or the stabilizer system. Package Contents

Verify that all the following components are included in your package:

• 2 Inflatable Pontoons (30" long x 8" diameter, with zipper opening)
• 2 28" Anodized Arms
• 4 #241L Locking Combination Side/Deck Mounts
• 2 #280 Baitcaster Rod Holders
• Durable inner bladders for pontoons
• Patch kit

Note: Mounting hardware (screws, nuts, etc.) and an air pump for inflation are not included and must be acquired separately. A high-pressure pump is recommended for pontoon inflation.

Setup Instructions

1. Attach Mounts to Kayak:

   Identify suitable locations on your kayak for the #241L Locking Combination Side/Deck Mounts. These mounts should be placed to allow the stabilizer arms to extend outwards without obstruction. Securely attach the four mounts to your kayak using appropriate marine-grade hardware (not included). Ensure the mounts are firmly fixed to withstand water forces.

2. Inflate Pontoons:

   Unzip the outer shell of each pontoon and locate the inner bladder. Using a high-pressure air pump (not included), inflate the inner bladders. The valves may require sufficient pressure to open. Do not over-inflate, as sun exposure can cause further expansion. Inflate until firm but not rigid. Once inflated, zip the outer shell closed.

3. Assemble Stabilizer Arms:

   Insert the 28" anodized arms into the adjustable mounting system on each pontoon. Ensure they are securely locked into place. The adjustable mounting system allows for easy installation and removal of the pontoons from the arms.
4. Attach Stabilizer System to Kayak:

   Slide the assembled stabilizer arms (with pontoons attached) into the #241L Locking Combination Side/Deck Mounts on your kayak. Ensure the locking mechanism engages to prevent accidental detachment. Adjust the position of the pontoons forward or backward as needed for optimal balance and stability. The locking mounts facilitate quick attachment and removal.

5. Install Rod Holders:

   Attach the #280 Baitcaster Rod Holders to the designated slots on the stabilizer arms or other compatible Scotty mounts on your kayak. These can be adjusted to your preferred angle for fishing.

Operating Instructions

Once the Scotty Kayak Stabilizer System is installed, it provides over 30 pounds of extra buoyancy, significantly increasing your kayak's stability. This allows for activities such as standing up to fish or casting with greater confidence.

• On the Water: The pontoons will float on the water surface, providing a wider base for your kayak. This reduces the likelihood of tipping, especially in choppy waters or when shifting weight.
• Adjusting Position: If your kayak feels unbalanced, you can adjust the fore-aft position of the pontoons by sliding the arms within their mounts. Experiment to find the optimal position for your kayak and load.
• Using Rod Holders: The integrated Baitcaster Rod Holders can be used to secure your fishing rods while paddling or when you need both hands free. Adjust their angle for optimal rod placement.

Maintenance

• Cleaning: After each use, rinse all components with fresh water to remove salt, sand, and debris. Use mild soap and water for thorough cleaning if necessary.
• Inspection: Regularly inspect the pontoons for punctures or damage to the PVC material. Check the inner bladders for leaks. Inspect the arms and mounts for cracks, corrosion, or loose fasteners.
• Storage: For long-term storage, deflate the pontoons and store all components in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. This helps preserve the material and extends product life.
• Patching: If a puncture occurs, use the included patch kit to repair the inner bladder or outer PVC shell according to the patch kit instructions.
