Setup and Installation

This section outlines the steps for installing the Square D Homeline 15 Amp CAFCI Circuit Breaker.

  1. Preparation: Ensure the main power to the load center is OFF. Verify with a voltage tester.
  2. Identify Wires: Locate the circuit's hot wire and its corresponding neutral wire.
  3. Connect Pigtail Neutral: Connect the white pigtail neutral wire from the circuit breaker to the neutral bar in the load center.
  4. Connect Load Wires:
    • Connect the circuit's hot wire to the terminal on the circuit breaker marked "LOAD".
    • Connect the circuit's neutral wire to the terminal on the circuit breaker marked "NEUTRAL" (if applicable, or follow specific breaker instructions for load neutral).
  5. Mount Breaker: Align the circuit breaker with an available slot in the Homeline load center and firmly push it into place until it clicks.

Operating Instructions

The circuit breaker is designed for automatic protection against overloads and arc faults.

  • Turning ON: Push the toggle switch firmly to the "ON" position.
  • Turning OFF: Push the toggle switch firmly to the "OFF" position.
  • Tripped Breaker: If the breaker trips, the toggle switch will move to a center position between "ON" and "OFF". To reset, first push the switch completely to the "OFF" position, then push it to "ON".

Maintenance

Circuit breakers generally require minimal maintenance. Regular inspection is recommended.

  • Annual Inspection: Visually inspect the circuit breaker and wiring connections for any signs of damage, discoloration, or loose connections.
  • Cleaning: Keep the area around the circuit breaker free from dust and debris. Do not use liquids for cleaning inside the load center.
  • Testing: Some electrical codes recommend periodic testing of AFCI breakers. Consult local codes for specific requirements.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Breaker trips frequently.Overload, short circuit, or arc fault.
  • Reduce load on the circuit.
  • Inspect wiring for damage or short circuits.
  • Unplug appliances one by one to identify faulty device.
  • Consult a qualified electrician if problem persists.
Breaker will not reset.Persistent fault (overload, short, or arc fault) or internal breaker damage.
  • Ensure all devices on the circuit are unplugged.
  • Push switch firmly to "OFF" then "ON".
  • If it still won't reset, contact a qualified electrician.
No power to circuit after installation.Incorrect wiring, loose connections, or main power off.
  • Verify main power is ON.
  • Check all connections for tightness.
  • Ensure pigtail neutral is correctly connected to the neutral bar.
  • Confirm breaker is fully seated in the load center.
