4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Focus Mode Switch (M/A and M)

The lens features a focus mode switch:

  • M/A (Autofocus with manual override): Allows the camera to autofocus. You can fine-tune focus manually by rotating the focus ring even when autofocus is active.
  • M (Manual focus): Disables autofocus. Focus must be adjusted manually by rotating the focus ring.

4.2 Vibration Reduction (VR) Switch (ON/OFF)

The VR function reduces blur caused by camera shake. It is recommended for handheld shooting in low light or at slower shutter speeds.

  • ON: Activates Vibration Reduction.
  • OFF: Deactivates Vibration Reduction. Turn VR OFF when using a tripod or when shooting at very fast shutter speeds.

Note: VR is most effective when shooting still subjects. For panning shots, some cameras may automatically adjust VR for optimal results.

4.3 Zooming

To change the focal length, rotate the zoom ring on the lens. The focal length markings (16, 24, 35, 50, 70, 85mm) indicate the current setting.

4.4 Aperture Control

The aperture is controlled via your camera body. This lens has a variable maximum aperture, ranging from f/3.5 at 16mm to f/5.6 at 85mm.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning the Lens

  • Dust: Use a blower brush to remove dust from the lens surface.
  • Smudges/Fingerprints: Apply a small amount of lens cleaning fluid to a clean, soft lens cloth and gently wipe the lens in a circular motion from the center outwards. Do not apply fluid directly to the lens.
  • Lens Body: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using organic solvents like paint thinner or benzene.

Caution: Never use abrasive materials or excessive force when cleaning lens elements.

5.2 Storage

  • Attach the front and rear lens caps when not in use.
  • Store the lens in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and high humidity.
  • If storing for an extended period, place it in a soft case (CL-1015) and consider using a desiccant to prevent mold and mildew.
