Key Features:

  • Measures pH and Temperature, with a range of 0-14 pH, 0-80 °C, and 32-176 °F.
  • Autoranging three-point calibration with digital fine-tuning for enhanced accuracy.
  • Waterproof housing with an IP-67 rating, ensuring durability and protection against water ingress.
  • Includes storage solution in a sponge embedded in a clear cap to keep the sensor hydrated.
  • Features an auto-off function to conserve battery life, a data-hold function for easy reading, and a low-battery indicator.
  • Digital Calibration via push button for user convenience.

Setup

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the PH-200 meter from its packaging. Inspect for any visible damage.
  2. Battery Installation: The meter requires 2 AAA batteries. Open the battery compartment, insert the batteries according to the polarity indicators, and securely close the compartment.
  3. Initial Sensor Hydration: The pH sensor must remain wet at all times. The meter comes with a clear cap containing a sponge soaked in storage solution. Ensure the sponge is moist. If it appears dry, add a few drops of pH electrode storage solution or pH 4.0 buffer solution to rehydrate it.
  4. Rinsing: Before first use and between measurements, rinse the electrode with distilled or deionized water. Do not wipe the electrode, as this can create static electricity and affect readings.

Operating Instructions

1. Power On/Off:

Press the ON/OFF button to turn the meter on or off. The meter will automatically shut off after 10 minutes of non-use to conserve battery life.

2. Taking a Measurement:

  1. Remove the protective cap from the electrode.
  2. Rinse the electrode with distilled water.
  3. Immerse the electrode into the solution to be tested, ensuring the sensor is fully submerged.
  4. Gently stir the meter and wait for the reading to stabilize on the display. The pH value and temperature will be shown.
  5. To hold the reading on the display, press the HOLD button. Press again to release.
  6. After measurement, rinse the electrode with distilled water and replace the protective cap, ensuring the sponge remains moist with storage solution.

3. Calibration:

Regular calibration is crucial for accurate readings. The PH-200 features an auto-ranging three-point calibration. Use fresh, quality pH buffer solutions (e.g., pH 4.0, 7.0, and 10.0).

  1. Prepare two or three calibration buffer solutions (e.g., pH 7.0 and pH 4.0 for acidic range, or pH 7.0 and pH 10.0 for alkaline range).
  2. Turn on the meter and rinse the electrode with distilled water.
  3. Immerse the electrode into the first buffer solution (e.g., pH 7.0).
  4. Press and hold the TEMP/CAL button until "CAL" appears on the display. The meter will automatically recognize the buffer solution and calibrate. Wait for "END" to appear, indicating successful calibration.
  5. Rinse the electrode with distilled water.
  6. Repeat the process for the second buffer solution (e.g., pH 4.0 or pH 10.0). For optimal accuracy, calibrate with a buffer solution close to your expected sample pH.

4. Temperature Unit Selection:

To switch between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F), press the TEMP/CAL button briefly while the meter is on and not in calibration mode.

Maintenance

  • Electrode Hydration: Always keep the pH electrode moist. Store the meter with the protective cap filled with pH electrode storage solution or pH 4.0 buffer solution. Never allow the sensor to dry out, as this can permanently damage it.
  • Cleaning: After each use, rinse the electrode thoroughly with distilled or deionized water to prevent contamination. For stubborn residues, a mild cleaning solution specifically designed for pH electrodes can be used, followed by thorough rinsing.
  • Electrode Replacement: The pH electrode (sensor bulb) is a consumable part and will eventually degrade over time, typically after 1-2 years of regular use, or if it dries out. If the meter fails to calibrate or provides unstable readings despite proper maintenance, the sensor may need replacement (HM Digital SP-P2). Replacement is a simple process of unscrewing the old sensor and screwing in the new one, followed by calibration.
  • Battery Replacement: When the low-battery indicator appears, replace the AAA batteries promptly to ensure accurate operation.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Meter does not turn on.Dead or incorrectly installed batteries.Check battery polarity; replace batteries.
Unstable or inaccurate readings.Dry electrode, dirty electrode, or needs calibration.Rehydrate electrode, clean electrode, perform calibration. Ensure buffer solutions are fresh and uncontaminated.
Meter fails to calibrate.Contaminated or expired buffer solution, damaged electrode.Use fresh buffer solutions. If problem persists, the electrode may need replacement.
"Err" or "Lo" message on display.Electrode issue or out of measurement range.Ensure electrode is fully submerged. Check electrode for damage. Recalibrate.
