Trixie Bicycle Dog Leash Set Model 1287

Instruction Manual

Introduction

Thank you for choosing the Trixie Bicycle Dog Leash Set, Model 1287. This product is designed to allow you to safely and comfortably take your dog with you on bicycle rides. This manual provides essential information for the correct assembly, operation, and maintenance of your bicycle dog leash set. Please read these instructions carefully before first use and retain them for future reference.

Safety Information

  • Always ensure your dog is properly trained and accustomed to running alongside a bicycle before using this product.
  • Inspect all components of the leash set and your bicycle for damage or wear before each ride. Do not use if any part is damaged.
  • Ensure the mounting bracket is securely fastened to your bicycle frame. Loose connections can lead to instability and accidents.
  • Attach the leash only to a well-fitting dog harness, not directly to a collar, to prevent neck injury to your dog.
  • Maintain a safe speed and be aware of your surroundings, including traffic, pedestrians, and other animals.
  • The integrated spring is designed to absorb sudden tugs, but it does not eliminate the need for careful riding and dog control.
  • The quick-release Velcro strap is an emergency feature. Familiarize yourself with its operation before use.
  • Ensure your dog is physically fit enough for the activity and provide adequate water breaks, especially in warm weather.
  • The reflective parts enhance visibility in low light conditions, but additional lighting and reflective gear are recommended for night riding.

Setup and Installation

  1. Attach the Mounting Bracket: Select a suitable position on your bicycle frame, typically the seat post or rear frame tube, ensuring it does not interfere with pedaling or other bicycle functions. Place the plastic insert between the bracket and the frame to protect the paint and provide a secure grip. Use the provided bolts, nuts, and washers to firmly attach the bracket. Ensure it is tightened securely but do not overtighten to avoid damaging the frame.
  2. Close-up of the mounting bracket components, including bolts, nuts, and a clear plastic insert for frame protection.

Operating Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Dog: Ensure your dog is wearing a comfortable and secure harness. Never attach the leash directly to a collar.
  2. Attach Dog to Leash: Clip the carabiner hook of the leash to your dog's harness. Ensure the leash is not twisted and your dog is positioned comfortably alongside the bicycle.
  3. Start Slowly: Begin your ride at a slow pace, allowing your dog to adjust to the movement and rhythm. Gradually increase speed as your dog becomes more comfortable.
  4. Utilize the Spring: The robust spring is designed to absorb sudden tugs from your dog, providing a smoother ride for both you and your pet. This helps prevent sudden jerks that could unbalance the bicycle.
  5. Quick-Release Function: The leash features a Velcro strap that allows for quick detachment in emergency situations. In case of a sudden, strong pull or entanglement, the leash can be rapidly separated from the main bar. Familiarize yourself with this mechanism.
  6. Visibility: The leash set includes reflective parts to increase visibility during low-light conditions.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: The fabric leash can be hand washed only. Use mild soap and cold water. Do not machine wash or tumble dry. Wipe down the metal bar and bracket with a damp cloth.
  • Inspection: Regularly check the leash, spring, bar, and mounting bracket for any signs of wear, fraying, cracks, or damage. Pay close attention to the carabiner hook and the quick-release Velcro strap.
  • Tightness: Periodically check the tightness of all bolts on the mounting bracket. Retighten if necessary.
  • Storage: Store the leash set in a dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use to prolong its lifespan.

Troubleshooting

  • Problem: The mounting bracket feels loose or shifts during use.

Solution: Ensure the plastic insert is correctly positioned between the bracket and the bicycle frame. Tighten the bolts firmly. If the issue persists, the bracket may not be suitable for your specific frame tube diameter, or the bolts may be worn.

  • Problem: My dog is pulling too hard, and the spring doesn't seem to help enough.

Solution: The spring cushions tugs but does not eliminate them. Ensure your dog is adequately trained for cycling. Consider shorter rides initially and reinforce proper behavior. If your dog is very strong, ensure the leash is attached to a suitable harness that distributes pressure evenly.

  • Problem: The leash detaches unexpectedly.

Solution: Check the carabiner hook for proper closure. If the quick-release Velcro strap is detaching, ensure it is fully engaged and not worn out. Replace the leash if the Velcro no longer holds securely.
