Crimson Trace LG-305

Crimson Trace LG-305 Lasergrips User Manual

Model: LG-305

Product Overview

The Crimson Trace LG-305 Lasergrips are designed for Smith & Wesson J-Frame revolvers with a round butt. These Lasergrips feature an extended grip length compared to the LG-405, providing enhanced handling. The laser is instinctively activated when the firearm is held in a natural shooting grip, thanks to a front-activated sensor. Constructed with a durable rubber overmold material over a polymer base, the LG-305 offers a secure and comfortable hold.

This product is compatible with various Smith & Wesson J-Frame models, including Airlight, Airweight, Bodyguard, Chief’s Special, Centennial, Ladysmith, and specific models like 36, 37, 38, 49, 60, 63, 317, 331, 332, 337, 340, 342, 351, 360, 442, 637, 638, 640, 642, 649, 651, and 940, provided they have a round butt frame.

Key Features

  • Brightness: Features a 5mW peak, 620-670nm, Class 3R visible red laser, which is the brightest beam allowed by law.
  • Ease of Use: Instinctive Activation button engages the laser immediately when the firearm is held in a normal firing grip. This distinguishes Crimson Trace products.
  • Runtime: Provides over 4 hours of continuous battery life.
  • Reliability: User-installable with no gunsmithing required. Factory sighted at 50 feet, with full user adjustability for Windage and Elevation using the provided tool.
  • Compatibility: Specifically designed to fit Smith & Wesson J-Frame Round Butt Revolvers.
  • Laser Specifications: Class IIIA (IIIR) Red laser sight with a maximum output power of ≤ 5mw, wavelength of 650 nm, and a beam range of 40 meters in high illumination (lux) direct sunlight conditions to over 400 meters at night.

Installation and Setup

The LG-305 Lasergrips are designed for user installation and do not require professional gunsmithing. Follow these steps for proper installation and initial setup:

  1. Safety First: Ensure the firearm is unloaded and cleared before beginning any installation or maintenance. Remove all ammunition from the area.
  2. Remove Existing Grips: Carefully remove the existing grips from your Smith & Wesson J-Frame revolver according to the firearm manufacturer's instructions.
  3. Install Lasergrips: Position the Crimson Trace LG-305 Lasergrips onto the revolver frame. Ensure proper alignment with the grip screw hole.
  4. Secure Grips: Use the provided hardware to secure the Lasergrips firmly to the frame. Do not overtighten.
  5. Battery Installation: Install the batteries into the designated compartment within the Lasergrips. Ensure correct polarity.
  6. Initial Function Check: With the firearm still unloaded and pointed in a safe direction, activate the laser by gripping the firearm naturally. Verify the laser beam is emitted.

Operating Instructions

The LG-305 Lasergrips are designed for intuitive operation. The primary method of activation is through the Instinctive Activation™ system.

  1. Instinctive Activation: The laser is designed to activate automatically when you assume a natural firing grip on the revolver. Pressure from your hand on the front activation pad will turn the laser on.
  2. Master On/Off Switch: For situations where the laser is not desired, a master on/off switch is located on the grip. This allows you to completely disable the laser function. Refer to the diagram below for its location.
  3. Windage and Elevation Adjustment: The laser is factory sighted at 50 feet. However, you can fine-tune the point of aim using the provided adjustment tool.
    • Windage Adjustment: Adjusts the laser horizontally (left/right).
    • Elevation Adjustment: Adjusts the laser vertically (up/down).
Make small adjustments and test the laser's point of impact to achieve desired accuracy.

Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and reliable performance of your Crimson Trace LG-305 Lasergrips.

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the Lasergrips. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the rubber overmold or laser components.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace batteries as needed to maintain optimal laser brightness and runtime. Refer to the specifications for battery type. Always dispose of old batteries responsibly.
  • Storage: Store the Lasergrips in a cool, dry place, away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight. If storing for extended periods, consider removing the batteries to prevent leakage.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the grips for any signs of wear, damage, or loose components. Ensure the grip screws remain secure.
