2. Setting Your Combination
The ABUS 155/20 padlock comes with a factory preset combination, typically 0-0-0. Follow these steps to set your personal 3-digit combination:
- Open the Padlock: Ensure the padlock is open. If it's currently locked, dial the current combination (factory default is 0-0-0) and pull up the shackle.
- Rotate the Shackle: With the shackle in the open position, rotate it 90 degrees counter-clockwise from its locked position.
- Press Down the Shackle: Firmly press the shackle down into the padlock body. Hold it in this depressed position.
- Set Your New Combination: While holding the shackle down, rotate the three number dials to your desired 3-digit combination. Choose a memorable combination.
- Release and Rotate Back: Release the shackle. Then, rotate the shackle back 90 degrees clockwise to its original open position.
- Close the Padlock: Push the shackle down to close the padlock. Scramble the dials to lock it. Your new combination is now set.
Important: Test your new combination a few times before locking the padlock on an item. If you forget your combination, there is no master key or override function to open the padlock.
3. Operating Instructions
3.1. Locking the Padlock
- Ensure the shackle is fully inserted into the padlock body.
- Scramble the number dials so that your combination is no longer visible. The padlock is now locked.
3.2. Unlocking the Padlock
- Align the three number dials to display your personal 3-digit combination.
- Pull up the shackle to open the padlock.
4. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and smooth operation of your ABUS 155/20 padlock, consider the following maintenance tips:
- Cleaning: Periodically wipe the padlock body and shackle with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and dirt. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Lubrication: If the dials become stiff or difficult to turn, apply a small amount of graphite powder or a silicone-based lubricant to the moving parts. Avoid oil-based lubricants as they can attract dirt.
- Storage: Store the padlock in a dry environment when not in use to prevent corrosion.
5. Troubleshooting
- Padlock will not open:
- Ensure the correct 3-digit combination is entered. Double-check each digit.
- Verify that the dials are precisely aligned with the indicator marks.
- If the dials are stiff, try applying a lubricant as described in the Maintenance section.
- Difficulty setting a new combination:
- Make sure the shackle is fully pressed down and held firmly while setting the new code.
- Ensure the shackle is rotated exactly 90 degrees before pressing it down.
- Forgotten combination:
The ABUS 155/20 padlock does not have a master key or a method to retrieve a forgotten combination. If the combination is lost, the padlock cannot be opened without knowing the code. It may need to be cut off.
