Setup
1. Battery Installation
The Olympus Stylus 830 utilizes a Lithium Ion battery for power.
- Locate and open the battery compartment cover, typically found on the bottom of the camera.
- Insert the battery into the compartment, ensuring the correct orientation as indicated by the markings inside the compartment.
- Close the battery compartment cover securely until it latches.
2. Memory Card Insertion
The camera is compatible with xD-Picture Cards. For optimal performance and storage capacity, a 2GB xD-Picture Card is recommended.
- Open the memory card slot cover, usually located on the side or bottom of the camera.
- Insert the xD-Picture Card into the slot until it clicks into place. Ensure the card is facing the correct direction.
- Close the memory card slot cover firmly.
3. Initial Power On
After installing the battery and memory card, you can power on your camera.
- Press the power button to turn on the camera.
- Upon the first power-on, you may be prompted to set the date, time, and language. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete these initial settings.
Operating the Camera
1. Basic Photography
- Power On/Off: Press the dedicated power button to turn the camera on or off.
- Shooting Modes: The camera offers 26 preset shooting modes, including Auto, Program Auto, Sensor-Shift Image Stabilization, Portrait, Landscape, Night Scene, Sport, Indoor, Candle, Self Portrait, Available Light Portrait, Sunset, Fireworks, Cuisine, Behind Glass, Documents, Auction, Shoot & Select1, Shoot & Select2, Beach & Snow, Underwater Wide1, Underwater Wide2, Underwater Macro & Movie. Select the appropriate mode using the mode dial or menu options.
- Zoom: Use the zoom lever to control the 5x optical zoom for clear magnification and the 5.6x digital zoom for further enlargement.
- Focusing: The camera features Face Detection technology to automatically focus on subjects' faces. Press the shutter button halfway down to achieve focus before fully pressing to capture the image.
- Image Stabilization: The Olympus Stylus 830 incorporates Dual Image Stabilization (Sensor-Shift and Digital) to minimize blur caused by camera shake, especially in low-light conditions.
- Flash: The built-in flash operates automatically based on lighting conditions.
2. Video Recording
The camera can record video in AVI format at a resolution of 640x480 pixels at 30 frames per second, with audio.

1. Cleaning

2. Storage

- Memory card error: Turn off the camera, remove and reinsert the memory card. If the error persists, try a different compatible xD-Picture Card. Ensure the card is not full or corrupted.
- Flash not firing: Check the camera's flash settings to ensure it is not set to 'Flash Off' or a mode that suppresses flash. Ensure the subject is within the effective flash range.
- Camera freezes or becomes unresponsive: Remove the battery for a few seconds, then reinsert it and power on the camera.
