Safety Information

  • Never look directly at the sun through the binoculars. This can cause severe and permanent eye damage.
  • Keep binoculars away from small children to prevent accidental damage or misuse.
  • Avoid dropping the binoculars, as this can damage the optical components and alignment.
  • Do not disassemble the binoculars. Refer to qualified service personnel for repairs.

Setup

1. Unpacking and Inspection

Carefully remove the binoculars and all accessories from the packaging. Inspect for any signs of damage. Ensure all listed components are present.

2. Adjusting Interpupillary Distance

Hold the binoculars with both hands and look through the eyepieces. Bend the body of the binoculars at the hinge until you see a single, clear circular field of view. This adjusts the distance between the eyepieces to match the distance between your eyes.

3. Focusing

  1. Choose a distant, stationary object to focus on.
  2. Close your right eye and rotate the central focus wheel until the image in your left eye is sharp and clear.
  3. Close your left eye and rotate the diopter adjustment ring (usually on the right eyepiece) until the image in your right eye is sharp and clear.
  4. With both eyes open, the image should now be in focus. For subsequent viewing, only use the central focus wheel to adjust for different distances.

4. Attaching the Wrist Strap

Thread the wrist strap through the strap lugs on the binoculars. Ensure it is securely fastened to prevent accidental drops.

Operating Instructions

General Viewing

Once the binoculars are properly focused for your eyes, simply aim them at your desired object. Use the central focus wheel to fine-tune the focus for varying distances. For extended viewing, especially at 20x magnification, consider using a tripod to minimize hand shake and provide a stable image.

Using with a Tripod

The Konus Giant-60 binoculars are equipped with a tripod mount. To attach them to a tripod, locate the threaded socket, usually found under a cap on the front hinge. Remove the cap and screw the binoculars onto a compatible tripod adapter (sold separately) which then attaches to your tripod. This provides enhanced stability for prolonged observation.

Maintenance

Cleaning Lenses

Use the provided lens cleaning cloth or a soft, lint-free cloth specifically designed for optical surfaces. Gently wipe the lenses to remove dust or smudges. For stubborn marks, a small amount of optical lens cleaning fluid can be applied to the cloth, not directly to the lens.

Cleaning the Body

Wipe the rubber-coated body with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials, as these can damage the finish.

Storage

When not in use, store the binoculars in their carrying case in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Ensure lens caps are in place to protect the optics from dust and scratches.

Troubleshooting

  • Blurry Image:
Ensure the central focus wheel and diopter adjustment are correctly set for your eyes. Check for condensation on the lenses.
  • Double Image:
Re-adjust the interpupillary distance by bending the binoculars at the hinge until a single circular field of view is achieved. If the problem persists, the binoculars may require professional alignment.
  • Difficulty Focusing:
Ensure the object you are viewing is within the binoculars' minimum focus distance. Clean the lenses if they are dirty.
  • Image too dark:
These binoculars perform well in low light, but extreme darkness will limit visibility. Ensure objective lens caps are removed.
