2. Setup and Preparation

Before each use, inspect the ratchet straps for any signs of wear, cuts, fraying, or damage to the webbing, hooks, or ratchet mechanism. Do not use damaged straps.

Preparing the Strap:

  1. Ensure the ratchet mechanism is fully open and flat.
  2. Feed the loose end of the webbing through the slot in the rotating spindle of the ratchet.
  3. Pull the webbing through until it is taut, leaving only a small amount of slack.

3. Operating Instructions

Proper operation of the ratchet straps is crucial for securing your load safely. Always ensure the load is balanced and distributed evenly before securing.

Securing the Load:

  1. Attach one S-hook to a secure anchor point on your trailer or vehicle.
  2. Drape the strap over or around your cargo, ensuring it does not twist.
  3. Attach the other S-hook (connected to the ratchet mechanism) to another secure anchor point.
  4. Begin ratcheting the handle up and down to tighten the strap. Continue until the strap is taut and the load is firmly secured. Do not overtighten, as this can damage the cargo or the strap.
  5. Once tightened, push the ratchet handle down to its closed, locked position.
  6. Use the self-securing fastener (hook and loop strap) to manage any excess webbing, preventing it from flapping during transit.

Releasing the Strap:

  1. Pull the release pawl (often a small lever or button near the handle) to disengage the ratchet mechanism.
  2. Open the ratchet handle fully, pressing it flat against the main body of the ratchet. This will release the tension on the webbing.
  3. Pull the webbing out of the spindle to fully release the strap.

4. Maintenance

Regular maintenance extends the life of your SmartStraps and ensures continued safe operation.
