3. Setup
- Unpack the Lamp: Carefully remove the OttLite OTL13TCG Task Lamp from its packaging. Inspect the lamp for any signs of damage.
- Unfold the Lamp: The lamp features a fold-up design. Gently lift the handle and unfold the lamp until it is in an upright position. The shade will open as you unfold it.
- Position the Lamp: Place the lamp on a stable surface. The swivel base allows for easy adjustment of the light direction.
- Connect to Power: Plug the power cord into a standard electrical outlet.

4. Operating Instructions
- Turning On/Off: The lamp features an automatic on/off switch activated by the shade. To turn the lamp on, fully open the shade. To turn the lamp off, close the shade completely.
- Adjusting Light Direction: The lamp's swivel base allows you to easily position the low-heat, low-glare illumination. You can use it parallel to the desktop, straight up to illuminate larger areas, or even attach it to a wall (mounting hardware not included).
5. Maintenance
5.1 Cleaning
To clean the lamp, ensure it is unplugged from the power outlet. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the exterior surfaces. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these may damage the finish.
5.2 Bulb Replacement
The OttLite OTL13TCG Task Lamp uses a 13-watt compact fluorescent bulb (Type E), rated to last up to 10,000 hours. When the bulb needs replacement:
- Unplug the lamp from the power source.
- Carefully open the shade to access the bulb compartment.
- Gently remove the old bulb by pulling it straight out. Avoid twisting if possible, as the plastic holder can be delicate.
- Insert the new 13-watt Type E compact fluorescent bulb firmly into the socket.
- Close the shade and plug the lamp back in to test.
6. Troubleshooting
- Lamp does not turn on:
- Ensure the power cord is securely plugged into a working electrical outlet.
- Verify that the shade is fully open, as this activates the on/off switch.
- Check if the bulb is properly seated in its socket. If the bulb is old, it may need replacement.
- Light is flickering or strobing:
- A flickering or strobing effect can sometimes occur. If persistent, try replacing the bulb. If the issue continues with a new bulb, contact customer support.
- Lamp appears damaged:
- If any part of the lamp, especially the bulb socket, appears damaged or broken, discontinue use and contact customer support for assistance.
