Assembly (Setup)
Follow the numbered steps in the included diagrammatic instructions for precise assembly. The general process involves:
- Part Preparation: Carefully cut parts from the sprues using side cutters. Use a hobby knife or sandpaper to remove any excess plastic (flash) or sprue gates.
- Dry Fitting: Before applying adhesive, test fit parts to ensure proper alignment and fit. Adjust as necessary.
- Adhesive Application: Apply plastic cement sparingly to the joining surfaces. Hold parts firmly together until the adhesive sets. For small or delicate parts, use extra thin cement.
- Sub-Assemblies: Assemble major components (e.g., chassis, turret, wheels) as separate sub-assemblies before combining them into the final model.
- Figure Assembly: Assemble the included figures according to their specific instructions.
Painting and Finishing (Operating)
Once the model is fully assembled, it is ready for painting and detailing. Refer to historical references or the box art for suggested color schemes.
- Cleaning: Wash the assembled model with mild soap and water to remove any grease or mold release agents. Allow to dry completely.
- Priming: Apply a thin, even coat of primer to all surfaces. This helps paint adhere better and provides a uniform base.
- Base Coats: Apply base colors using appropriate model paints (acrylics, enamels, or lacquers). Apply multiple thin coats rather than one thick coat for a smoother finish.
- Detail Painting: Paint smaller details such as tools, weapons, and figures.
- Weathering (Optional): Techniques like washes, dry brushing, and pigments can be used to add realism and simulate wear and tear.
- Decal Application: Apply decals to the designated areas. Use decal softener (like Tamiya Mark Fit) to help decals conform to irregular surfaces and eliminate silvering.
- Top Coat: Apply a clear matte, satin, or gloss top coat to protect the paint and decals.

Maintenance
Proper care will preserve the appearance of your finished model.
- Cleaning: Dust your model regularly with a soft brush or compressed air. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
- Storage: Store the model in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent paint fading or plastic warping. Consider a display case for protection.
- Handling: Handle the model by its base or sturdy parts to avoid damaging delicate components.
Troubleshooting
Encountering issues during assembly or painting is common. Here are some tips:
- Parts Not Fitting: Ensure all flash is removed. If parts are still tight, gently sand or file the mating surfaces. If too loose, apply a small amount of filler or a thicker cement.
- Paint Issues: If paint appears uneven or textured, ensure the surface was clean, the paint was properly thinned, and applied in thin coats. Humidity can also affect paint drying.
- Decal Silvering: This occurs when air is trapped under the decal. Use decal softener and press down gently to remove air bubbles. A gloss coat under the decal can also help.
- Missing Parts: Double-check the sprues and packaging. If a part is genuinely missing, contact Tamiya customer support.
