Operating Instructions
Follow these steps to create perfectly formed hamburger patties:
- Prepare Meat: Use your preferred ground meat. For best results and to prevent sticking, ensure the meat is chilled.
- Use Parchment Paper: Place a sheet of parchment paper on a flat, clean surface. This aids in easy transfer and prevents sticking. You may also place a second sheet on top of the meat before pressing for even easier removal.
- Portion Meat: Take a desired amount of ground meat and form it into a loose ball. For a 1/3 lb patty (approximately 1/2 inch thick), use about 1/3 lb of meat. For a 1/4 lb patty (approximately 3/8 inch thick), use about 1/4 lb of meat.
- Place Meat: Center the meat ball on the parchment paper.
- Press Patty: Place the assembled hamburger press over the meat ball. Apply firm, even pressure downwards on the plunger. The amount of pressure applied will determine the thickness of your patty. Press until the desired thickness is achieved. The press will form a 4-inch diameter patty.

- Remove Patty: Lift the press. The formed patty should remain on the parchment paper. If using a top sheet of parchment, simply peel it off.
- Transfer/Store: The parchment paper allows for easy transfer of patties to a grill, pan, or freezer for storage. Uniform patties cook evenly.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Proper cleaning ensures the longevity and hygiene of your Norpro Hamburger Press.
- Disassembly: For thorough cleaning, disassemble the press into its three components (base, cylinder, plunger).
- Washing: Wash all parts by hand using warm water and mild dish soap.
- Rinsing: Rinse all components thoroughly to remove any soap residue.
- Drying: Dry all parts completely before reassembling or storing.
- Dishwasher Safety: This product is not dishwasher safe. Hand washing is recommended to preserve the material and finish.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Patty sticks to the press. | Meat is too warm or too lean; insufficient lubrication. | Ensure meat is chilled. Use parchment paper on both sides of the patty. Lightly spray the inside of the press with cooking oil between patties if sticking persists. |
| Patty is unevenly formed. | Uneven pressure applied; meat not centered. | Apply firm, even pressure directly down on the plunger. Ensure the meat ball is centered within the press before pressing. |
| Patty is too thick/thin. | Incorrect amount of meat or pressure. | Adjust the amount of meat used. Experiment with the amount of pressure applied to achieve desired thickness. Refer to the Operating Instructions for suggested meat portions for specific thicknesses. |
