Timex Expedition E-Compass Watch User Manual

Model: T49201

Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your Timex Expedition E-Compass Watch, model T49201. Please read this manual thoroughly to ensure proper use and to maximize the lifespan of your timepiece.

The Timex Expedition E-Compass watch is designed for durability and functionality, featuring an analog-quartz movement, a mineral crystal, and a titanium case. It includes an E-Compass function and is water-resistant up to 100 meters.

Important Safety Information

  • Do not attempt to open the watch case. Servicing should only be performed by authorized Timex service centers.
  • Avoid exposing the watch to extreme temperatures (above 60°C / 140°F or below 0°C / 32°F) or strong magnetic fields, which can affect accuracy.
  • While water-resistant to 100 meters, this watch is suitable for snorkeling and swimming, but not for scuba diving. Do not operate pushers or crown underwater.
  • Clean the watch with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid chemical cleaners.

Figure 1: Front view of the Timex Expedition E-Compass watch. This image displays the watch face with its cream dial, black hour markers, and red compass markings. The watch features a titanium case and a brown leather strap. The crown and two pushers are visible on the right side of the case.

  • Crown: Used for setting time and date.
  • Pushers: Used for activating the E-Compass and other functions.
  • Dial: Displays time, date, and compass readings.
  • Hands: Hour, minute, and second hands.
  • INDIGLO® Night-Light: Illuminates the dial for low-light visibility.

Setup and Initial Operation

Setting the Time

  1. Pull the crown out to position 2 (fully extended). The second hand will stop.
  2. Turn the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise to set the hour and minute hands to the correct time.
  3. Push the crown back in to position 1 (normal operating position). The second hand will resume movement.

Setting the Date

  1. Pull the crown out to position 1 (halfway extended).
  2. Turn the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise to set the date. Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 3 AM, as this may interfere with the automatic date change mechanism.
  3. Push the crown back in to position 0 (normal operating position).

Operating the E-Compass Function

The E-Compass function allows you to determine your bearing. For accurate readings, ensure you are away from strong magnetic fields (e.g., large metal objects, electronic devices).

  1. Activate Compass: Press and hold the upper pusher (usually at 2 o'clock position) for approximately 2 seconds. The second hand will point to North.
  2. Calibrate (if necessary): If the compass seems inaccurate, hold the watch flat and rotate it slowly in a figure-eight motion several times. Then, reactivate the compass.
  3. Read Bearing: While the compass is active, rotate your body until the second hand points to 'N' (North) on the dial. The hour hand will then indicate your current bearing.
  4. Deactivate Compass: The compass will automatically deactivate after a short period (e.g., 20 seconds) or you can press the upper pusher again to turn it off.

Using INDIGLO® Night-Light

To activate the INDIGLO® night-light, simply press the crown inwards. The entire dial will illuminate for a few seconds, providing visibility in low-light conditions.

Maintenance and Care

  • Cleaning: Wipe the watch case and crystal with a soft, lint-free cloth. For the leather strap, avoid excessive moisture and harsh chemicals.
  • Battery Replacement: When the watch stops or the INDIGLO® light dims significantly, the battery may need replacement. This should be done by a qualified watch technician to maintain water resistance.
  • Water Resistance: The watch is water-resistant to 100 meters (330 feet). This means it is suitable for recreational surfing, swimming, snorkeling, sailing, and water sports. It is NOT suitable for diving. Always ensure the crown is fully pushed in before exposing the watch to water.
  • Storage: Store your watch in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures when not in use.
