5. Installation (Setup)

5.1 Tools Required (Not Included)

  • Adjustable wrench
  • Screwdriver
  • Plumber's tape (PTFE tape)
  • Basin wrench (optional, for tight spaces)
  • Bucket and towels (for spills)

5.2 Pre-Installation Steps

  1. Turn off Water Supply: Locate the main water shut-off valve for your home or the shut-off valves under the sink. Turn them off completely.
  2. Drain Existing Water: Open the existing tap to drain any remaining water from the lines.
  3. Remove Old Tap: Disconnect the water supply lines from the old tap and remove the mounting nuts. Carefully lift out the old tap and drain fitting.
  4. Clean Mounting Surface: Clean the sink or countertop surface where the new tap will be installed.

5.3 Tap Installation

  1. Attach Connection Hoses: Screw the 350mm connection hoses into the base of the new tap. Hand-tighten first, then use a wrench for a snug fit, but do not overtighten.
  2. Position Tap: Place the tap through the single mounting hole on your basin or countertop. Ensure any rubber gaskets or seals are correctly positioned between the tap base and the sink surface.
  3. Secure Tap: From underneath the sink, slide the rubber washer, metal washer, and mounting nut onto the threaded rod(s) of the tap. Tighten the mounting nut securely to hold the tap in place.
  4. Connect Water Supply: Connect the hot and cold water supply lines to the corresponding shut-off valves. Use plumber's tape on the threads for a watertight seal. Tighten with a wrench.

5.4 Drain Fitting Installation

  1. Assemble Drain: Follow the instructions provided with the pull drain fitting (1 1/4 inch) to assemble it. Ensure all seals are correctly placed.
  2. Install Drain: Insert the drain fitting into the drain hole of the basin. From underneath, secure it with the provided nut and washer, ensuring a watertight seal.
  3. Connect Pull Rod: Connect the pull rod from the tap to the drain stopper mechanism. Adjust the rod to ensure the stopper opens and closes smoothly.
  4. Connect to P-Trap: Connect the drain fitting to your existing P-trap assembly.

5.5 Post-Installation Checks

  1. Restore Water Supply: Slowly turn on the main water supply.
  2. Check for Leaks: Carefully inspect all connections under the sink for any signs of leaks. Tighten connections if necessary.
  3. Flush Lines: Open both hot and cold handles on the tap to flush out any debris from the water lines. Let the water run for a few minutes.

6. Operation

The Cornat Tratto TR182 features two cross-handles for precise control of water flow and temperature.

  • Cold Water: Turn the right handle counter-clockwise to open the cold water supply. Turn clockwise to close.
  • Hot Water: Turn the left handle counter-clockwise to open the hot water supply. Turn clockwise to close.
  • Temperature Control: Adjust the hot and cold handles simultaneously to achieve the desired water temperature.
  • Spout Swivel: The high spout can be swiveled to direct the water flow as needed.
  • Drain Stopper: Use the pull rod located behind the tap to open and close the basin's drain stopper. Pull up to close the drain, push down to open.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning the Tap

  • Clean the chrome-plated surface regularly with a soft cloth and mild soap or a non-abrasive cleaner specifically designed for chrome.
  • Rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry with a soft cloth to prevent water spots.
  • Avoid using abrasive sponges, scouring pads, or harsh chemical cleaners (e.g., bleach, ammonia-based products) as these can damage the finish.

7.2 Aerator Maintenance

The tap features a low-noise aerator (M24 x 1) designed to provide a soft, water-saving jet. Over time, mineral deposits can accumulate in the aerator, reducing water flow.

  1. Remove Aerator: Unscrew the aerator from the end of the spout. You may need an aerator key or a coin.
  2. Clean: Rinse the aerator components under running water. Use a soft brush to remove any debris or mineral deposits. For stubborn deposits, soak the aerator in a solution of equal parts white vinegar and water for 30 minutes.
  3. Reassemble: Screw the clean aerator back into the spout, ensuring it is hand-tightened.

7.3 Cartridge Replacement

The tap is equipped with easily replaceable cartridges featuring low-wear ceramic sealing discs. If you experience persistent dripping or difficulty controlling water flow, a cartridge may need replacement.

  1. Turn off Water Supply: Shut off the hot and cold water supply to the tap.
  2. Remove Handle: Carefully pry off the decorative cap on the handle (if present) and unscrew the handle screw. Remove the handle.
  3. Access Cartridge: Unscrew the retaining nut or ring that holds the cartridge in place.
  4. Replace Cartridge: Carefully lift out the old cartridge and insert a new, identical replacement cartridge.
  5. Reassemble: Reattach the retaining nut/ring and the handle. Turn on the water supply and check for leaks.
