  • Ensure the baby tray is securely seated before placing an infant on it.
  • Keep the scale clean and dry. Avoid exposing it to excessive moisture or extreme temperatures.
  • Do not attempt to disassemble or repair the scale yourself. Refer to qualified service personnel.
  • This scale is designed for weighing infants and small children within its specified capacity. Do not exceed the maximum weight capacity of 130 lbs (59 kg).

Package Contents

Verify that all components are present and undamaged upon unpacking:

  • Detecto Mechanical Pediatric Baby Scale Base
  • Weigh Beam Assembly
  • Polystyrene Baby Tray
  • Instruction Manual (this document)

Setup Instructions

  1. Unpack Components: Carefully remove all parts from the packaging.
  2. Place Scale Base: Position the scale base on a flat, stable, and level surface. Ensure there is adequate space around the scale for safe operation.
  3. Attach Weigh Beam: Securely attach the weigh beam assembly to the vertical support column on the scale base. Ensure it is firmly seated and stable.
  4. Install Baby Tray: Place the polystyrene baby tray onto the designated area on the scale base. The tray should fit snugly and securely, preventing any wobbling.
  5. Zero the Scale: Before first use and periodically, ensure the scale is properly zeroed. Adjust the tare weight knob (if present, typically on the weigh beam) until the weigh beam is balanced at the zero mark without any weight on the tray.

Operating Instructions

  1. Prepare the Scale: Ensure the scale is on a stable surface and properly zeroed. If using a blanket or diaper, place it on the tray first and re-zero the scale to account for its weight.
  2. Place Infant: Carefully place the infant onto the center of the baby tray. Ensure the infant is calm and still for an accurate reading.
  3. Read Weight: Adjust the large and small weight poises on the weigh beam until the beam balances in the center. Read the weight indicated by the combined values of the poises. The scale measures in pounds and ounces.
  4. Measure Length (Optional): The integrated measuring tape on the baby tray allows for length measurement. Gently extend the infant and read the length directly from the tape.
  5. Remove Infant: Carefully remove the infant from the tray after recording the measurements.

  • Storage: Store the scale in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the scale for any signs of wear or damage. Ensure all components are secure.
  • Calibration: Mechanical scales generally maintain accuracy well, but if you suspect inaccuracies, consult a qualified service technician for calibration.
