Wiring Diagram Overview

Image: Front view of the Leviton 5645-W Decora 3-Way/AC Combination Switch, showing the rocker switch at the top and the AC receptacle at the bottom. Various wiring terminals (brass, silver, green) are visible on the sides, indicating connections for line, load, common, and ground wires.
Wiring Steps:
- Prepare Wires: Strip approximately 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) of insulation from each wire.
- Identify Wires:
- Ground Wire (Green or Bare Copper): Connect to the green grounding screw on the device.
- Common Wire (from power source): For 3-way applications, one common wire connects to one of the brass screws.
- Traveler Wires (between 3-way switches): Connect to the remaining brass screws.
- Hot Wire (from power source for receptacle): If you want the receptacle to be always hot, connect a separate hot wire to one of the silver screws.
- Load Wire (to light fixture/device controlled by switch): Connect to the remaining silver screw.
Note: The common terminal is shunted internally to all switches. For specific wiring configurations (e.g., independent switch and receptacle power), consult a qualified electrician or refer to advanced wiring diagrams.
- Connect Wires: Loosen the terminal screws, insert the stripped wire ends under the screw heads, and tighten securely. Ensure no bare wire is exposed outside the terminal.
- Mount Device: Carefully fold wires into the wallbox. Mount the device into the wallbox using the provided mounting screws.
- Install Wallplate: Attach a compatible Decora wallplate (not included) over the device.
- Restore Power: Turn power back ON at the circuit breaker or fuse panel.
- Test Operation: Test both the switch and the receptacle to ensure proper functionality.
Operating Instructions
- Switch Operation: Press the top or bottom of the rocker switch to turn the connected light fixture or device ON or OFF. In a 3-way setup, the light can be controlled from two different locations.
- Receptacle Operation: Plug any 120V AC compatible electrical device into the bottom receptacle. The receptacle can be wired to be always ON, or controlled by the switch, depending on your installation.
Maintenance
- This device requires no routine maintenance.
- To clean, wipe with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Ensure power is OFF at the circuit breaker before cleaning.
