Setup
1. Battery Installation
The PDT550 thermometer comes with one product-specific alkaline battery pre-installed. If the display is dim or unresponsive, battery replacement may be necessary.
- Locate the battery compartment cover, typically on the back or side of the unit.
- Use a small screwdriver if required to open the compartment.
- Remove the old battery and insert a new AB13 type alkaline battery, ensuring correct polarity.
- Securely close the battery compartment cover.
2. Initial Use
Remove the protective probe cap before use. The cap can be stored on the opposite end of the thermometer for safekeeping or placed aside.
Operating Instructions
Power On/Off
- Press the ON/OFF button to turn the thermometer on.

Temperature Measurement
- Ensure the thermometer is powered on.
- Insert the stainless steel probe into the substance or area where temperature measurement is desired. Ensure the probe tip is fully immersed or in firm contact.
- Wait for the reading on the digital display to stabilize. The response time is approximately 500 milliseconds, but stabilization may take longer depending on the temperature difference.
Selecting Temperature Units (°F/°C)
- Locate the °F/°C button, typically on the side or back of the unit.
- Press this button to toggle between Fahrenheit and Celsius temperature scales.

MIN/MAX Record Function
- While the thermometer is on, press the MIN/MAX button to view the minimum temperature recorded since the device was last reset or powered on.
- Press the MIN/MAX button again to view the maximum temperature recorded.
- Press a third time to return to live temperature readings.
- The MIN/MAX values are reset when the thermometer is powered off.
HOLD Function
- Press the HOLD button to freeze the current temperature reading on the display.
- Press the HOLD button again to release the reading and return to live temperature measurement.
Maintenance
Cleaning
The PDT550 is waterproof and designed for easy cleaning. To clean the thermometer:
- Wipe the probe and body with a damp cloth and mild detergent.
- Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
- Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the entire unit in water for extended periods, despite its waterproof rating.
- Ensure the unit is dry before storing.
Storage
When not in use, always place the protective cap over the probe. Store the thermometer in a clean, dry place away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight.

Troubleshooting
- No Display or Dim Display:
Check the battery. Replace with a new AB13 alkaline battery if necessary. Ensure correct battery polarity.
- Inaccurate Readings:
Ensure the probe is fully inserted into the substance being measured. Allow sufficient time for the reading to stabilize, especially when moving between significantly different temperatures. Clean the probe if there is any residue.
- Slow Response Time:
While the device has a fast response time, large temperature differentials can cause the reading to change gradually. Ensure the probe is making good thermal contact. If the issue persists, consider battery replacement.
- Buttons Unresponsive:
Try turning the unit off and on again. If the problem continues, replace the battery.
