1. Introduction
The CPS Products CC220 Compute-a-Charge Scale is an advanced, high-capacity charging scale designed for precision and versatility in various applications, particularly critical coolant charging. It features robust load cell technology, ergonomic controls, and a clear LCD display. This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective use of your CC220 scale.
2. Safety Information
Always observe the following safety precautions to prevent injury or damage to the unit:
- Do not exceed the maximum weight capacity of 220 lbs (100 kg). Overloading can damage the scale's internal components.
- Ensure the scale is placed on a stable, level surface during operation to ensure accurate readings.
- Keep the scale away from extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, and excessive moisture.
- Avoid dropping or subjecting the scale to severe impacts, as this can affect its calibration and functionality.
- Do not attempt to disassemble or repair the scale yourself. Refer to qualified service personnel for any repairs.

4. Setup
Follow these steps for initial setup of your CC220 scale:
- Unpack the Scale: Carefully remove the scale platform and remote display unit from the carrying case.
- Install Battery: Open the battery compartment on the back of the remote display unit and insert a 9V battery, observing polarity. Close the compartment securely.
- Connect Components: The coiled cord permanently connects the remote display unit to the scale platform. Ensure the connection is secure.
- Placement: Place the scale platform on a firm, level, and stable surface, free from vibrations.
5. Operating Instructions
Operating the CC220 scale is straightforward:
- Power On: Press the POWER button on the remote display unit to turn on the scale. The LCD will illuminate and display '0.00' or '0.0'.
- Select Units: Use the UNIT button to cycle through available measurement units (e.g., lbs, kg, oz). Select the desired unit for your measurement.
- Tare Function: If you are using a container or hose that needs to be excluded from the measurement, place it on the scale platform first. Then, press the TARE button. The display will reset to '0.00', effectively zeroing out the weight of the container.
- Weighing: Carefully place the item to be weighed (e.g., refrigerant cylinder) onto the center of the scale platform. The weight will be displayed on the LCD.
- Charging: When charging, monitor the display for the precise amount of refrigerant added or removed.
- Power Off: Press and hold the POWER button to turn off the scale. The scale also features an automatic OFF option to conserve battery life.

6. Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and accuracy of your scale:
- Cleaning: Wipe the scale platform and display unit with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the unit in water.
- Storage: When not in use, store the scale in its original carrying case in a dry, cool place to protect it from dust and damage.
- Battery Replacement: Replace the 9V battery when the low battery indicator appears on the display or if the scale fails to power on.
- Calibration: The scale is factory calibrated. If you suspect a calibration issue, contact CPS Products customer support for assistance. Do not attempt to recalibrate the unit yourself.
7. Troubleshooting
Refer to the table below for common issues and their solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Scale does not power on. | Dead or incorrectly installed battery. | Replace the 9V battery, ensuring correct polarity. |
| Inaccurate readings. | Scale not on a level surface; overloaded; damaged; static discharge. | Ensure scale is level. Do not exceed capacity. Avoid static buildup (e.g., use a rubber mat). Contact support if damage is suspected. |
| Display shows 'OL' or 'Err'. | Overload condition. | Remove the item from the scale. Ensure the weight is within the 220 lb capacity. |
| Display flickers or is unstable. | Low battery; unstable surface; electromagnetic interference. | Replace battery. Move scale to a stable surface. Relocate away from strong electronic devices. |
