Operating Instructions

Using for Internal Snap Rings (Spreading)

For internal snap rings (circlips that fit inside a bore or housing), the pliers should be configured to spread the tips when the handles are squeezed.

  1. Ensure the red conversion tab is set for internal use (tips spread when handles are squeezed).
  2. Select the appropriate tip size for the snap ring's eyelets.
  3. Insert the tips into the eyelets of the internal snap ring.
  4. Slowly squeeze the handles to expand the snap ring, allowing it to be removed or installed.

Using for External Snap Rings (Compressing)

For external snap rings (circlips that fit around a shaft), the pliers should be configured to compress the tips when the handles are squeezed.

  1. Ensure the red conversion tab is set for external use (tips compress when handles are squeezed).
  2. Select the appropriate tip size for the snap ring's eyelets.
  3. Insert the tips into the eyelets of the external snap ring.
  4. Slowly squeeze the handles to compress the snap ring, allowing it to be removed or installed.

Maintenance

  • Tip Security: Regularly check that the interchangeable tips are securely fastened by their set screws. Tighten if necessary, but avoid overtightening.
  • Cleaning: Keep the pliers clean and free from debris. Wipe down with a clean cloth after each use.
  • Lubrication: Periodically apply a light oil to the pivot points and spring mechanism to ensure smooth operation and prevent rust.
  • Storage: Store the pliers and their interchangeable tips in a dry, protected environment to prevent corrosion and loss of small parts. The included plastic case for tips is recommended.

Troubleshooting

Tips becoming loose or falling out:

If the tips become loose or fall out during use, it is likely due to the set screws not being sufficiently tightened or becoming loose over time due to vibration and repeated use.

  • Solution: Use the provided Allen wrench to tighten the set screws on each plier arm. Ensure they are snug but do not overtighten, as this can strip the threads or damage the tips. Regular checks of tip tightness are recommended before each use.

Difficulty converting between internal and external modes:

If the red conversion tab is stiff or difficult to move, or the pliers do not properly switch modes.

  • Solution: Apply a small amount of lubricating oil to the pivot mechanism and the red conversion tab. Work the mechanism back and forth several times to distribute the lubricant. Ensure no debris is obstructing the movement of the tab or pivot.
