This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your AEG CS 5000 CAFFE Silenzio automatic espresso machine. Please read this manual thoroughly before first use and keep it for future reference. Proper use and care will ensure optimal performance and longevity of your appliance.

2. Product Overview
Familiarize yourself with the components of your AEG CS 5000 CAFFE Silenzio espresso machine.

Main Components:
- Control Panel: Features buttons and rotary dials for various functions and settings.
- Coffee Bean Container: Located at the top, for whole coffee beans.

3. Setup
3.1 Unpacking and Placement
- Remove all packaging materials.
- Place the machine on a stable, level surface, away from heat sources and water.
- Ensure adequate ventilation around the appliance.
3.2 Filling the Water Tank
The water tank has a capacity of 2 liters.
- Pull the water tank out from the side of the machine.
- Fill the tank with fresh, cold tap water up to the MAX level indicator.
- Slide the water tank back into its position until it clicks securely.

3.3 Filling the Coffee Bean Container
The machine uses whole coffee beans for grinding.
- Open the lid of the coffee bean container located on top of the machine.
- Pour fresh coffee beans into the container. Do not overfill.
- Close the lid securely to maintain bean freshness.

3.4 Initial Rinse Cycle
Before first use, perform an initial rinse cycle to clean the internal circuits.
- Place a container under the coffee dispenser and steam wand.
- Turn on the machine. Follow the on-screen prompts or indicator lights for the rinse cycle.
- The machine will dispense hot water through the coffee dispenser and steam wand.
- Empty the containers and the drip tray after the cycle is complete.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Making Espresso or Coffee
- Ensure the water tank is filled and the bean container has sufficient coffee beans.
- Place a cup under the coffee dispenser.
- Adjust the coffee dispenser height to fit your cup.
- Select your desired coffee strength and water volume using the rotary dials or buttons on the control panel.
- Press the coffee brewing button. The machine will grind the beans and dispense coffee.

4.2 Using Pre-ground Coffee
This machine also allows the use of pre-ground coffee for a single serving.
- Open the lid for the pre-ground coffee chute, usually located near the bean container.
- Add one scoop of pre-ground coffee (approximately 7-9 grams). Do not add more than one scoop.
- Select the pre-ground coffee function on the control panel.
- Press the coffee brewing button.

4.3 Frothing Milk and Hot Water Dispensing
The steam wand can be used to froth milk for cappuccinos and lattes, or to dispense hot water for tea.
- For Milk Frothing: Fill a pitcher with cold milk. Submerge the steam wand tip just below the surface of the milk. Activate the steam function. Move the pitcher up and down to create foam.
- For Hot Water: Place a cup under the steam wand. Activate the hot water function.

5. Maintenance
Regular cleaning and maintenance are crucial for the performance and lifespan of your espresso machine.
5.1 Daily Cleaning
- Drip Tray and Coffee Grounds Container: Empty and rinse daily. The machine will indicate when the grounds container needs emptying.
- Water Tank: Rinse daily and refill with fresh water.
- Steam Wand: After each use, wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth to remove milk residue. Perform a short steam burst to clear any internal blockages.
5.2 Cleaning the Removable Brewing Unit
The brewing unit should be cleaned regularly, typically once a week or as indicated by the machine.
- Turn off and unplug the machine.
- Open the service door, usually located on the side or front.
- Press the PUSH button and pull the brewing unit out.
- Rinse the brewing unit thoroughly under lukewarm running water. Do not use detergents.
- Allow it to air dry completely before reinserting.
- Push the brewing unit back into place until it clicks. Close the service door.

5.3 Descaling
The machine will prompt you when descaling is required. Use a descaling solution recommended by AEG.
- Follow the instructions on the descaling solution packaging.
- Empty the water tank and fill it with the descaling solution mixed with water as per instructions.
- Place a large container under the coffee dispenser and steam wand.
- Start the descaling program as indicated in the machine's display or manual.
- After the descaling cycle, rinse the water tank and perform several rinse cycles with fresh water to remove any descaling residue.
