Introduction
Product Overview
The Dynex DX-VS201 S-Video Audio/Video Selector is designed to expand the connectivity of your television or home theater receiver. This unit allows you to connect up to four audio/video components to a single input on your display device. It features 4 inputs (2 with S-Video capability) and 2 outputs (also with S-Video capability), along with standard composite video and stereo audio (RCA) connections. The front panel input design and one-touch push-button switching ensure ease of use for selecting your desired source.
This selector is particularly useful for systems with limited S-Video or composite video inputs, enabling connection of multiple devices such as satellite receivers, DVD players, VCRs, and video game systems.

Connecting Your Devices
- Identify Inputs and Outputs: Locate the input ports (labeled INPUT 1-4) and output ports (labeled OUTPUT) on the selector unit. Note that inputs 1 and 2 support both S-Video and composite video, while inputs 3 and 4 support composite video only. All inputs support stereo audio (red/white RCA).
- Connect Source Devices: Using appropriate S-Video or RCA cables, connect your source devices (e.g., DVD player, VCR, game console, satellite receiver) to the desired INPUT ports on the DX-VS201A selector. Ensure that audio (red for right, white for left) and video (yellow for composite, S-Video for S-Video) cables are connected to their corresponding jacks.
- Connect to Display/Receiver: Connect the OUTPUT ports of the DX-VS201A selector to a single available input on your television or home theater receiver. If your display has an S-Video input, use an S-Video cable for the best picture quality. Otherwise, use a composite video (yellow RCA) cable. Connect the stereo audio (red/white RCA) cables from the selector's output to your display or receiver's audio input.
- Power On: Ensure all devices are properly connected and then power on your source devices and display.

Maintenance
Cleaning
To clean the exterior of the selector, use a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol sprays, as they may damage the finish or internal components. Ensure the unit is disconnected from all devices before cleaning.
Storage
When not in use for extended periods, store the selector in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Disconnect all cables to prevent strain on the ports.
Troubleshooting
No Video or Audio Output
- Check Cable Connections: Ensure all S-Video, composite video, and audio RCA cables are securely connected to the correct input and output ports on both the selector and your devices.
- Verify Input Selection: Confirm that the correct input button (1, 2, 3, or 4) is pressed on the DX-VS201A selector for the device you wish to view/hear.
- TV/Receiver Input: Make sure your television or home theater receiver is set to the correct input channel where the DX-VS201A selector is connected.
- Source Device Power: Ensure your source device (DVD player, VCR, etc.) is powered on and playing content.
Poor Picture or Sound Quality
- Cable Quality: Use high-quality S-Video and RCA cables. Damaged or low-quality cables can degrade signal quality.
- Cable Length: Avoid excessively long cables, which can lead to signal loss.
- Interference: Keep the selector and cables away from other electronic devices that might cause interference.
- S-Video vs. Composite: For the best picture quality, always use S-Video connections when available on both your source device and display.
