Key Components:
- Work Table: 7 7/8" x 2 3/4" (200 x 70mm) with three longitudinal T-slots.
- Handwheels: Two handwheels for X (lateral) and Y (cross) axis movement. Each handwheel has zero-resettable dials.
- Graduated Dials: Dials are graduated in 0.05mm increments (1 complete revolution = 1.0mm feed).
- Dovetails: Adjustable dovetails control backlash for precise movement.
- Spindle Cover: Protects the spindle from dust and debris.

5. Setup
5.1 Mounting the Compound Table
The PROXXON KT 70 is designed for attachment to compatible drill stands or bench drill machines, such as the MICROMOT drill stand MB 200 or the bench drill machine TBM 115. Use the provided clamping accessories for secure attachment.
- Position the compound table on the base of your drill stand or machine.
- Align the mounting holes or use the clamping accessories to secure the table.
- Tighten all fasteners firmly to prevent any movement during operation.
5.2 Securing the Workpiece
Use the included step clamps to firmly secure your workpiece to the compound table's T-slots.

Figure 5.1: A workpiece secured to the PROXXON KT 70 using the provided step clamps. This demonstrates proper clamping technique for stability during operations.
- Place the workpiece on the table.
- Insert the step clamps into the T-slots on either side of the workpiece.
- Adjust the height of the step clamps to match the workpiece thickness.
- Tighten the clamping screws evenly until the workpiece is held securely without shifting.
6. Operation
6.1 Axis Movement
The compound table allows for precise movement along two axes:
- X-axis (Lateral): Controlled by the front handwheel. Provides 5 9/32" (134mm) travel.
- Y-axis (Cross): Controlled by the side handwheel. Provides 1 13/16" (46mm) travel.
6.2 Using the Graduated Dials
The handwheels are equipped with zero-resettable dials for accurate positioning:
- To set a starting point, rotate the handwheel until the desired position is reached.
- Rotate the outer ring of the dial to align the "0" mark with the reference point.
- Each full revolution of the handwheel moves the table by 1.0mm. Each graduation mark represents 0.05mm of feed.
- Carefully turn the handwheel to achieve the desired displacement.
6.3 Backlash Adjustment
The dovetails are adjustable to minimize backlash, ensuring precise movement. If you notice excessive play in the axes, consult the maintenance section for adjustment procedures.

7. Maintenance
7.1 Cleaning
- After each use, clean the table surface and T-slots to remove chips, dust, and debris.
- Use a brush or compressed air. Avoid using solvents that may damage the aluminum finish.
7.2 Lubrication
- Periodically apply a light machine oil to the lead screws and dovetail ways to ensure smooth operation and prevent wear.
- Do not over-lubricate; wipe off any excess oil.
7.3 Backlash Adjustment
If play develops in the X or Y axis, the dovetail gibs may need adjustment. This typically involves tightening small set screws located along the sides of the moving slides. Adjust incrementally until play is removed, ensuring the slide still moves smoothly without binding.
8. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Excessive play in X or Y axis movement | Loose dovetail gibs | Adjust the dovetail gib set screws (refer to Maintenance section). |
| Stiff or binding axis movement | Lack of lubrication; overtightened gibs; debris in ways | Clean and lubricate lead screws and ways. Loosen gib set screws slightly. |
| Inaccurate positioning | Backlash not adjusted; dial not zeroed correctly | Adjust backlash. Re-zero graduated dials before starting a new measurement. |
| Workpiece shifts during operation | Improper clamping | Ensure workpiece is firmly secured with step clamps. Check clamp stability. |
