What's in the Box
Upon opening your package, you should find the following items:
- 1 x ELECTRONIC SPECIALTIES - Pro Laser Photo Tachometer (Model 332)
- 1 x Protective Carrying Case
- 1 x Battery (pre-installed, with protective tab)
- 3 x Reflective Strips
- 1 x Instruction Manual
Setup
Before using your tachometer, ensure it is properly prepared for operation.
Battery Installation/Activation:
- Locate the battery compartment on the back of the device.
- If a protective plastic tab is present, gently pull it out to activate the pre-installed battery.
- If replacing the battery, twist the battery cover counter-clockwise to open. Insert a new CR2450 lithium battery with the positive (+) side facing up. Close the cover by twisting clockwise until secure.
Applying Reflective Tape:
For accurate non-contact measurements, a reflective target must be applied to the rotating object.
- Ensure the surface where the tape will be applied is clean, dry, and free of oil or grease.
- Cut a small piece (approximately 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch) of the provided reflective tape.
- Carefully peel off the backing of the tape.
- Firmly press the reflective tape onto the rotating part (e.g., shaft, pulley, fan blade). Ensure it is flat and smooth.
Operating Instructions
Follow these steps to take accurate RPM measurements with your tachometer.
Taking a Measurement:
- Ensure the reflective tape is securely attached to the rotating object.
- Hold the tachometer firmly, pointing the laser beam directly at the reflective tape on the rotating object. Maintain a distance of 2 to 6 feet for optimal performance.
- Press and hold the TEST button. The laser will activate, and the display will show the current RPM reading.
- Release the TEST button to stop the measurement. The last measured RPM will remain on the display.
Memory Functions:
The tachometer stores the maximum, minimum, and last readings.
- After taking a measurement, press the MEM button to cycle through the stored values: Maximum RPM, Minimum RPM, and Last RPM.
- To clear the memory, press and hold the MEM button for approximately 3 seconds until the display resets.
Unit Modes:
The tachometer may offer different measurement units or display modes. Refer to the detailed manual for specific instructions on how to switch between modes using the available buttons (e.g., 'M' or 'S' buttons if present on your model).
Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and accuracy of your tachometer.
Cleaning:
- Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Keep the laser aperture and display clean for optimal performance.
Battery Replacement:
Replace the battery when the low battery indicator appears on the display or if the device fails to power on.
- Twist the battery cover on the back of the unit counter-clockwise to open.
- Remove the old CR2450 battery.
- Insert a new CR2450 lithium battery with the positive (+) side facing up.
- Replace the battery cover and twist clockwise to secure it.
Storage:
When not in use for extended periods, store the tachometer in its protective carrying case in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your ES 332 Tachometer, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
- No Display/Device Not Powering On:
Check the battery. Ensure the protective tab is removed and the battery is correctly installed. Replace the battery if necessary. - Inaccurate or Erratic Readings:
Ensure the reflective tape is clean, flat, and securely attached. Verify the laser beam is pointed directly at the reflective tape. Adjust the distance between the tachometer and the target (optimal 2-6 feet). Ensure there are no obstructions or excessive ambient light interfering with the laser. - Laser Not Activating:
Ensure the TEST button is pressed and held. Check battery status. - Display Freezes:
Try removing and reinserting the battery to reset the device.
If problems persist after attempting these solutions, please contact customer support.
