Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the setup, operation, and maintenance of your TFA Dostmann Outdoor Temperature Transmitter, model 30.3120.90. This device is designed as a replacement or additional sensor for compatible TFA Dostmann weather stations, providing accurate wireless transmission of outdoor temperature data.

Setup

1. Battery Installation

1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the transmitter.
2. Unscrew the small screw securing the battery cover and remove the cover.
3. Insert the two AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
4. Replace the battery cover and secure it with the screw.

2. Pairing with Base Station

For initial setup or if connection is lost, follow these steps to pair the transmitter with your compatible TFA Dostmann weather station:

1. Ensure both the transmitter and the base station have fresh batteries installed.
2. Place the transmitter and the base station close to each other (within 1 meter) during the pairing process.
3. On your base station, initiate the sensor search mode. Refer to your base station's specific user manual for instructions on how to do this (e.g., pressing a "SYNC" or "CHANNEL" button).
4. The transmitter will automatically send its signal. The base station should detect and display the temperature reading within a few minutes.
5. If pairing is unsuccessful, try restarting both devices by removing and reinserting their batteries, then repeat the pairing process.

Operation

Reading the Display

The transmitter features a digital display that shows the current temperature measured by the sensor. This allows for direct temperature readings at the sensor's location, which can be useful for checking temperatures in remote areas or specific outdoor spots.

Wireless Transmission

The transmitter wirelessly sends the measured outdoor temperature to your compatible TFA Dostmann base station. The transmission range can vary depending on environmental factors such as walls, electronic interference, and other obstacles. Ensure a clear line of sight or minimal obstructions between the transmitter and the base station for optimal performance.

Optimal Placement

Proper placement of the outdoor temperature transmitter is crucial for accurate readings and reliable wireless transmission. Consider the following guidelines:

• Protection from Precipitation: The outdoor sensor should be placed in a location protected from direct rain, snow, and strong sunlight. An ideal spot is under an eaves, a porch, or a sheltered area.
• Avoid Direct Sunlight: Direct sunlight can significantly inflate temperature readings. Choose a shaded location that remains shaded throughout the day.
• Air Circulation: Ensure good air circulation around the sensor to prevent heat buildup from surfaces like walls or pavement.
• Distance from Heat Sources: Keep the sensor away from heat-emitting sources such as vents, windows, or appliances.
• Mounting: The transmitter can be hung using a screw or placed on a flat surface. If mounting, ensure it is securely fastened. An optional protective cover (TFA model 98.1114.02) can be purchased for additional protection.
• Transmission Range: While the sensor transmits wirelessly, extreme distances or numerous obstacles (thick walls, metal structures) between the sensor and the base station can reduce signal strength. Test the location before permanent installation.

Maintenance

• Cleaning: Clean the exterior of the transmitter periodically with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
• Battery Replacement: Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the transmitter's display or the base station, or if readings become erratic. Always replace both batteries at the same time with new alkaline batteries.
• Environmental Protection: While designed for outdoor use, prolonged exposure to extreme weather conditions (e.g., heavy storms, prolonged sub-zero temperatures without protection) can affect the device's lifespan. Ensure it is placed in a sheltered spot.
