4. Setup and Installation

4.1 Mounting the Enclosure

The ET8215C is designed for NEMA 1 indoor applications. Choose a suitable location that is dry, protected from extreme temperatures, and allows for easy access for wiring and programming. Secure the steel enclosure to a flat, stable surface using appropriate mounting hardware (not included).

4.2 Wiring Instructions

The ET8215C supports multi-volt operation (120-277 VAC) and can be configured for two independently operated SPST circuits, one simultaneous operated DPST, or independently pulsed SPST for contactor and bell ringing applications. Refer to the internal wiring diagram and the following guidelines:

1. Disconnect Power: Ensure all power to the circuit is OFF at the main breaker before proceeding.
2. Open Enclosure: Open the front cover of the time switch to access the wiring terminals and internal components.
3. Select Voltage: Locate the voltage selection switch inside the unit. Set it to the correct voltage (120V, 208V, 240V, or 277V) corresponding to your electrical supply.

4. Connect Wiring: Follow the wiring diagram printed inside the enclosure. The terminals are typically labeled for Timer Power (1, 2), Line 1 (3), Load 1 (4), Line 2 (5), and Load 2 (6).

5. Secure Connections: Ensure all wire connections are tight and secure.
6. Close Enclosure: Once wiring is complete and verified, close the front cover securely.

4.3 Initial Power-up and Battery Installation

The unit requires 2 AAA batteries for memory backup and initial setup. These are typically included. If not already installed, open the battery compartment and insert the batteries, observing correct polarity.

After wiring and battery installation, restore power to the circuit. The display should illuminate, and the unit will be ready for programming.

5. Operating Instructions

The ET8215C is programmed using the buttons located below the display. The primary buttons are MODE, DAY, RESET, ENTER NEXT, +, -, and ON/OFF.

5.1 Setting Current Time and Date

1. Press the MODE button repeatedly until the clock icon appears on the display.
2. Use the + or - buttons to adjust the hour, then press ENTER NEXT.
3. Repeat for minutes, AM/PM, year, month, and day.
4. Press ENTER NEXT to save and exit.

5.2 Programming ON/OFF Events

The time switch allows for up to 28 ON/OFF events. Each event can be programmed for specific days of the week or daily.

1. Press the MODE button repeatedly until 'PROG' appears on the display.
2. The display will show 'ON 1'. Use + or - to select the desired event number (1-28).
3. Press ENTER NEXT. Use DAY to select the day(s) for this event (e.g., MO, TU, WE, TH, FR, SA, SU, or ALL DAYS).
4. Press ENTER NEXT. Use + or - to set the ON time for the event.
5. Press ENTER NEXT. The display will show 'OFF 1'. Use + or - to set the OFF time for the event.
6. Press ENTER NEXT to save the event. Repeat for additional events.

5.3 Using the Astronomic Feature

The astronomic feature allows the time switch to automatically adjust ON/OFF times based on local sunrise and sunset. This eliminates the need for manual adjustments due to seasonal changes.

1. Press the MODE button repeatedly until 'ASTRO' appears on the display.
2. Use + or - to set your geographical location (e.g., by entering your latitude/longitude or a pre-defined zone). Refer to the full manual for detailed location setup.
3. When programming an event, you can select 'SUNRISE' or 'SUNSET' instead of a specific time for the ON or OFF event.
4. You can also set an offset (e.g., 15 minutes before sunset) if desired.

5.4 Manual Override

To manually turn the load ON or OFF, press the ON/OFF button. This will temporarily override the programmed schedule until the next scheduled event occurs.

The Intermatic ET8215C is designed for minimal maintenance. The primary maintenance task is battery replacement.

6.1 Battery Replacement

The unit uses 2 AAA alkaline batteries for memory backup. If the display becomes dim or the unit loses its programming during a power outage, the batteries may need replacement. It is recommended to replace batteries every 3-5 years, or as needed.

1. Disconnect Power: For safety, turn off power to the time switch at the circuit breaker.
