1. Introduction

The Aurora AS810SD is an 8-sheet strip-cut shredder designed for home and small office use. It efficiently shreds paper, CDs, and credit cards, providing a secure method for disposing of sensitive documents and media. This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your shredder.

2. Important Safety Instructions

• Read all instructions before use.
• Keep children and pets away from the shredder.
• Keep loose clothing, jewelry, hair, and hands away from the shredder opening.
• Do not spray any flammable products onto the shredder or use near flammable materials.
• Do not shred adhesive labels, continuous forms, or plastic other than credit cards and CDs.
• Always unplug the shredder when not in use or before cleaning.
• Do not operate the shredder if the power cord is damaged.
• The shredder features a three-mode safety switch to prevent accidental operation.

4. Setup

1. Carefully remove the shredder and its components from the packaging.
2. Place the wastebasket on a flat, stable surface.
3. Position the shredder head securely on top of the wastebasket. Ensure it is properly seated to activate the safety interlock.
4. Plug the power cord into a standard electrical outlet.

5. Operating Instructions

The shredder features a control switch with three positions: AUTO, OFF, and REV (Reverse).

5.1 Control Switch Positions

• AUTO: The shredder will automatically start when paper, a CD, or a credit card is inserted into the appropriate slot and stop once shredding is complete. This is the recommended setting for normal operation.
• OFF: The shredder is powered off. Always set the switch to OFF when emptying the wastebasket or when the shredder is not in use.
• REV (Reverse): This position reverses the shredder blades. Use this function to clear paper jams.

5.2 Shredding Paper

1. Ensure the control switch is set to AUTO.
2. Insert up to 8 sheets of paper (standard 20 lb bond paper) straight into the paper feed slot. Do not exceed the maximum sheet capacity to prevent jams.
3. The shredder will automatically start and shred the paper into 1/4-inch strips.
4. Once shredding is complete, the motor will stop.

5.3 Shredding CDs and Credit Cards

1. Ensure the control switch is set to AUTO.
2. For CDs, insert one CD at a time into the dedicated CD feed slot.
3. For credit cards, insert one credit card at a time into the dedicated credit card feed slot.
4. The shredder will automatically process the item. CDs are shredded into 1 3/8-inch wide strips.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Emptying the Wastebasket

• Always set the control switch to OFF and unplug the shredder before emptying.
• Carefully lift the shredder head off the wastebasket.
• Dispose of the shredded material. The wastebasket has a capacity of 4.5 gallons (approximately 100 sheets).
• Replace the shredder head securely onto the wastebasket.

6.2 Cleaning

• Unplug the shredder.
• Wipe the exterior of the shredder with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
• Do not immerse the shredder head in water.

6.3 Oiling the Blades (Recommended)

Regularly oiling the shredder blades helps maintain performance and extends the life of the unit. Use shredder oil sheets or liquid shredder oil specifically designed for paper shredders.

1. Apply a thin line of shredder oil across the paper entry slot.
2. Set the control switch to AUTO and feed a sheet of paper through to distribute the oil.
3. Alternatively, use a shredder oil sheet by feeding it through the paper entry slot.
