4. Setup and Installation
Proper installation is crucial for the safe and effective operation of your fan. If you are unsure about any part of the installation process, consult a qualified electrician or contractor.
- Choose a Mounting Location: Select a ceiling location that can structurally support the fan's weight (approximately 23.1 lbs) and allows for adequate clearance around the fan blades. Ensure the location is within reach of a 120V AC power outlet, considering the 10-foot, 3-conductor type SJT power cord.
- Mount the Bracket: Securely attach the ceiling mount bracket to a sturdy ceiling joist or structural support using appropriate hardware. Ensure the mounting is firm and stable to prevent vibration or detachment.
- Attach the Fan: Carefully lift the fan and attach it to the mounted bracket according to the assembly instructions provided with the hardware. Ensure all connections are tightened.
- Install Secondary Safety Cable: As an essential safety measure, attach the secondary safety cable from the fan to a separate, independent structural support point on the ceiling. This cable provides backup security in case the primary mounting fails.
- Connect Power: Plug the fan's 10-foot power cord into a grounded 120V AC outlet. Ensure the cord is routed safely to avoid tripping hazards and is not pinched.

5. Operating Instructions
The Air King 9718 fan is operated using a pull chain control and features adjustable airflow direction.
- Power On/Off and Speed Control: The fan is equipped with a 3-speed pull chain switch. Pull the chain once for Low speed, a second time for Medium speed, a third time for High speed, and a fourth time to turn the fan Off.
- Adjusting Airflow Direction: The fan head can be manually pivoted up or down, and turned side to side, to direct airflow precisely where needed. Ensure the fan is off before adjusting its position.

6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your fan.
- Cleaning: Disconnect the fan from the power supply before cleaning. Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe down the exterior surfaces. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the fan in water. The powder-coated steel blade, guard, and mount are designed for easy cleaning.
- Motor: The 1/6-horsepower motor is fully enclosed and permanently lubricated, requiring no additional lubrication.
- Storage: If storing the fan for an extended period, ensure it is clean and dry. Store in a cool, dry place.

7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Fan does not operate | No power supply; Power cord not fully plugged in; Pull chain not activated. | Check power outlet; Ensure cord is securely plugged in; Pull chain to cycle through speeds. |
| Reduced airflow | Fan blades or grill are dirty; Fan is on a lower speed setting. | Clean fan blades and grill (ensure fan is unplugged); Adjust speed setting using the pull chain. |
| Excessive noise or vibration | Loose mounting hardware; Fan blades are dirty or unbalanced; Obstruction in fan. | Check and tighten all mounting hardware; Clean blades; Ensure no objects are interfering with fan operation. Refer to noise level chart for expected sound levels. |
