2. Installation Instructions
Important: Before beginning installation, ensure the power to the circuit is turned OFF at the circuit breaker or fuse box to prevent electrical shock. If you are unsure about any part of these instructions, consult a qualified electrician.
- Turn Off Power: Locate the circuit breaker or fuse that controls the light switch you intend to replace and turn it off. Verify the power is off by attempting to turn on the light.
- Remove Existing Switch: Carefully remove the wall plate and unscrew the existing wall switch from the electrical box. Gently pull the switch out of the box.
- Disconnect Wires: Disconnect the wires from the existing switch. Note which wire was connected to which terminal (typically two wires for a standard single-pole switch).
- Connect New Timer: Connect the wires from the electrical box to the corresponding terminals on the Intermatic EJ351C timer. The timer is designed to replace a standard single-pole switch. Refer to the wiring diagram provided with your product packaging for specific connections. Ensure all connections are secure.
- Mount Timer: Carefully push the connected wires back into the electrical box. Secure the Intermatic EJ351C timer to the electrical box using the provided screws.
- Install Wall Plate: Attach your existing decorator-style wall plate over the newly installed timer.

3. Operating Instructions
The EJ351C timer allows for precise control of your lighting with programmable ON/OFF cycles and a security-enhancing random mode.
Setting the Time:
Rotate the central dial clockwise until the current time aligns with the indicator arrow. The dial is marked with 24 hours (1-12 AM/PM).
Programming ON/OFF Times:
The dial has small segments around its perimeter. Each segment represents a time interval. To program an ON or OFF time:
- For ON times: Push the small segments outwards at the desired ON times.
- For OFF times: Leave the small segments inwards at the desired OFF times.
- You can set up to 24 ON and 24 OFF events within a 24-hour period.
Using the Random Security Feature:
The random security feature automatically varies the ON/OFF times by a few minutes each day, making it appear as if someone is home. To activate this feature, locate the small switch labeled "OFF CLEAR" and "ON" (or similar) near the top of the timer. Move this switch to the "ON" position to enable the random function.
Self-Learning Feature:
The timer incorporates a self-learning feature that can adapt to your typical usage patterns over time, optimizing its operation for energy efficiency and security.
Memory Protection:
In the event of a power outage, the EJ351C timer is designed with memory protection to retain your programmed settings, eliminating the need for reprogramming once power is restored.
4. Maintenance
The Intermatic EJ351C timer requires minimal maintenance.
- Cleaning: To clean the timer, gently wipe the surface with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or excessive moisture, as this may damage the unit.
- Inspection: Periodically inspect the timer and its wall plate for any signs of damage or loose connections. If any issues are found, turn off power at the breaker and address them or consult a qualified electrician.
