Setup and Installation
The Culligan EZ-Change system is designed for quick and easy installation. The following steps outline the general process for installing the system and replacing the cartridge.
Tools Required:
- Phillips screwdriver
- Drill (if new hole is required for faucet)
- Utility knife
- Pencil
- Tape measure
- Adjustable wrench
- Safety glasses
- Teflon® tape
- Towel
Installation Steps:
- Mounting the Faucet: If your sink does not have a pre-drilled hole, one may need to be drilled. Remove any existing soap dispenser or sprayer from the desired hole. Insert the faucet spout into the faucet body and tighten the spout nut. Slide the black rubber gasket onto the threaded faucet stem, then lower the faucet stem through the hole in the sink. From underneath the sink, slide the metal washer up the faucet stem, followed by the white plastic stem nut. Hand-tighten the nut to secure the faucet.
- Installing the Water Supply Adapter: Turn off the cold water supply line to your sink. Turn on the cold water at the faucet to drain any remaining water from the line. Disconnect the cold water line from the 1/2-inch diameter threaded stub on the bottom of the cold water faucet inlet. Apply Teflon tape to the male threads of the faucet stub and the supply adapter. Screw the water supply adapter to the threaded faucet stub. Using the nut that previously connected the cold water line to the faucet, screw the cold water line to the male supply adapter threads. Hand-tighten, then snug with a wrench.
- Mounting the Filter Assembly: Select a location under the sink to mount the filter assembly. Ensure at least 1 1/2 inches of clearance below the filter cartridge for future changes, or 12 inches below the filter head. The filter head should be mounted in a vertical position on a stud or firm surface. Use the mounting bracket as a template to mark screw locations. Drill pilot holes using a drill bit slightly smaller than the supplied screws. Mount the filter head in the marked location using the supplied screws.
- Connecting Filter Housing to Supply Adapter: Determine the amount of plastic tubing needed to connect the inlet of the filter with the supply adapter, allowing enough tubing to prevent kinking. Cut the tubing squarely. Place a mark 5/8 inches from both ends of the tubing. Insert one end of the tubing into the supply adapter until the mark is flush with the fitting.
- Connecting the Faucet: Determine the amount of plastic tubing needed to connect the outlet of the filter with the faucet. Cut the tubing squarely. Slide the compression nut over the tubing, followed by the ferrule. Then place the insert into the end of the tubing. Push the tubing firmly into the end of the faucet stem and hand-tighten the compression nut onto the threads until secure. Then tighten approximately one-half turn with a wrench.
- Installing the Cartridge: Remove the battery from the side of the cartridge (if applicable for US-EZ-3 and EZ-4 systems) and insert it into the slot just below the Culligan logo on the faucet. The LED will blink red for about 30 seconds, then shut off. Line up the arrow on the cartridge with the unlocked padlock symbol on the filter head. Insert the cartridge by pushing up and then turning the arrow to the locked padlock symbol.
Operating Instructions
Once the system is installed and the cartridge is in place, follow these steps to begin using your filtered water:
- Activate Water Flow: Rotate the handle of the filter faucet counter-clockwise to the 'on' position.
- Flush the System: Allow water to run for approximately 10 minutes to flush air and carbon fines from the system. This ensures optimal performance and taste.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance, primarily cartridge replacement, is crucial for maintaining the performance of your Culligan water filtration system.
Cartridge Replacement:
- Filter Life: The RC-EZ-4 cartridge has a filter life of up to 500 gallons or 6 months. Replace the cartridge when the LED indicator on the faucet (if applicable for US-EZ-3 and EZ-4 systems) flashes yellow (within 30 days) or red (immediate change needed), or when water flow significantly decreases.
- Easy Replacement: To replace the cartridge, turn off the water supply to the filter. Place a towel under the system to catch any drips. Twist the old cartridge counter-clockwise from the locked position to the unlocked position and pull down to remove. Insert the new cartridge by aligning the arrow on the cartridge with the unlocked padlock symbol on the head, pushing up, and then turning clockwise to the locked padlock symbol.
- Battery Replacement: The battery for the LED indicator should be changed every time the filter cartridge is replaced.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter any issues with your Culligan EZ-Change system, refer to the following common troubleshooting advice:
- Leaks: If any leaks are observed after installation or cartridge replacement, immediately turn off the water supply. Re-check all connections, ensuring they are hand-tightened and then snugged with a wrench where appropriate. Ensure Teflon tape was applied correctly to threaded connections. Refer to the detailed installation guide provided with your system for specific troubleshooting steps.
- Reduced Water Flow: A decrease in water flow typically indicates that the filter cartridge is nearing the end of its life and requires replacement.
- Bad Taste/Odor Returns: If bad taste or odor returns, the filter cartridge may be exhausted and needs to be replaced.
