2. Safety Information

WARNING: This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm.

Always observe general safety precautions when working with soldering equipment. Ensure adequate ventilation in your workspace. Avoid direct contact with hot soldering iron tips and molten solder. Always place the soldering iron securely in the stand when not actively soldering to prevent accidental burns or damage to surfaces.

3. Setup

  1. Unpack Components: Carefully remove the soldering stand base, spring-coil iron holder, and cleaning sponge from the packaging.
  2. Assemble Iron Holder: Insert the straight end of the spring-coil iron holder into the designated hole on the soldering stand base. Ensure it is firmly seated and stable.
  3. Place Sponge: Place the dry cleaning sponge into the rectangular recess in the stand's base.
  4. Prepare Sponge: Before first use and periodically during operation, lightly dampen the sponge with clean water. The sponge should be moist, not soaking wet. Excess water can be squeezed out. A damp sponge is crucial for effective tip cleaning.
  5. Position Stand: Place the assembled soldering stand on a stable, heat-resistant surface near your soldering workstation.

4. Operating Instructions

The Weller PH50 stand provides a safe and convenient resting place for your soldering iron and a means to clean its tip.

  1. Iron Placement: When not actively soldering, always place your Weller PES50 or PES51 iron securely into the spring-coil holder. Ensure the hot tip is fully contained within the coil and does not touch any other surfaces.
  2. Tip Cleaning: To clean the soldering iron tip, gently wipe the hot tip across the damp sponge. This will remove excess solder, flux residue, and oxidation, helping to maintain a clean, tinned tip for optimal heat transfer and solder flow.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance of your soldering stand and sponge will ensure its longevity and effective performance.

  • Sponge Maintenance:
    • Keep the sponge damp during use. If it dries out, re-moisten it with clean water.
    • Periodically rinse the sponge thoroughly under running water to remove accumulated solder and flux residue. Squeeze out excess water before returning it to the stand.
    • Replace the sponge when it becomes heavily worn, torn, or no longer effectively cleans the tip.
  • Stand Cleaning:
    • Wipe down the stand base with a damp cloth to remove dust and debris.
    • Ensure no solder splashes accumulate on the stand, as this can affect its appearance and potentially its stability.

6. Troubleshooting
