2. Setup and Loading

This film is a 35mm roll film with 36 exposures. It is designed for use in 35mm cameras. Proper loading of the film is crucial for successful photography.

  1. Open Camera Back: In a dimly lit area, open the back cover of your 35mm camera.
  2. Insert Film Cartridge: Place the film cartridge into the film chamber on the left side of the camera.
  3. Pull Film Leader: Pull the film leader across the camera back until it reaches the take-up spool on the right side. Ensure the perforations on the film engage with the teeth on the take-up spool.
  4. Secure Film: Insert the film leader into the slot on the take-up spool and wind it slightly to ensure it is securely attached.
  5. Close Camera Back: Close the camera back firmly.
  6. Advance Film: Advance the film by winding the film advance lever (or using the motor drive) and pressing the shutter button until the frame counter shows '1'. This ensures any film exposed during loading is advanced past the lens.

3. Operating Instructions

Once the film is loaded, set your camera's ISO or film speed to 100. The film features DX coding, which allows compatible cameras to automatically detect the film speed. For optimal results, ensure your camera's light meter is functioning correctly and use appropriate exposure settings for the lighting conditions.

APX 100 is known for its versatility and is suitable for various lighting situations. It offers good contrast and tonal rendition, making it a reliable choice for both beginners and experienced photographers.

4. Care and Storage

To maintain the quality of your AgfaPhoto APX 100 film, observe the following care and storage guidelines:

  • Unexposed Film: Store unexposed film in its original sealed packaging in a cool, dry place, ideally below 20°C (68°F). Refrigeration (not freezing) can extend shelf life, but allow the film to warm to room temperature before use to prevent condensation.
  • Exposed Film: Process exposed film as soon as possible after shooting. If immediate processing is not possible, store exposed rolls in a cool, dark, and dry environment.
  • Avoid Extremes: Protect film from direct sunlight, high temperatures, and high humidity, as these can degrade image quality.
  • Handling: Handle film by the edges to avoid fingerprints, dust, and scratches.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your film photography, consider the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • Blank Frames: Check if the film was loaded correctly and advanced properly. Ensure the camera's shutter is firing.
  • Underexposed/Overexposed Images: Verify your camera's exposure settings (aperture, shutter speed) and ensure the ISO is correctly set to 100. Use a light meter or consult a reliable exposure guide.
  • Light Leaks: Inspect your camera for any cracks or gaps in the body or film door seals that could allow unwanted light to reach the film.
  • Scratches/Dust: Ensure your camera's film path is clean. Handle film carefully during loading and unloading to prevent physical damage.
  • Processing Issues: If multiple rolls show similar problems, the issue might be with the film processing. Consult your film lab or review your home development process.
