Model: 550516 | Brand: Steinel

1. Product Overview

The Steinel NightMatic 3000 Vario is a microprocessor-controlled twilight switch designed to automate outdoor lighting. It is ideal for illuminating building facades, grounds, gardens, and other outdoor areas during the night. This device intelligently manages your lighting, ensuring energy efficiency and convenience.

Key features include:

  • Automatic Lighting: Automatically switches connected lamps on in the evening when the set twilight threshold is reached and off again at dawn.
  • Vario Night Economy Mode: Allows programming a specific duration during the night when lighting is not desired or necessary, automatically turning off the light and reactivating it in the morning. This feature contributes to energy savings.
  • Adjustable Twilight Threshold: The light sensitivity can be individually set to suit specific environmental conditions.
  • Self-Compensating Light Function: Ensures reliable operation by preventing interference from nearby external light sources.

2. Safety Instructions

Please read these safety instructions carefully before installation and operation. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or serious injury.

  • Installation must be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national wiring regulations and local electrical codes.
  • Ensure the power supply is disconnected at the main circuit breaker before commencing any installation or maintenance work.
  • The device operates at 240 Volts. Handle with extreme care.
  • Do not open or modify the device. There are no user-serviceable parts inside.
  • Protect the device from moisture, dust, and extreme temperatures. It is designed for outdoor use but should be installed in a location protected from direct heavy rain if possible.

4. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the optimal performance of your NightMatic 3000. Follow these steps carefully:

  1. Choose a Location: Select a mounting location where the twilight switch can accurately detect ambient light. Avoid areas directly illuminated by artificial light sources (e.g., streetlights, other lamps) that could interfere with its operation. The sensor should have an unobstructed view of the sky.

    • Connect the electrical wires to the terminal block inside the device. The NightMatic 3000 uses a screw terminal type for connections.
    • Connect the phase (L), neutral (N), and switched phase (L') wires according to the wiring diagram provided inside the device cover.
    • Ensure all connections are secure and properly insulated.
  4. Mount the Device: Secure the NightMatic 3000 to the wall using the provided screws. Ensure it is firmly attached.
  5. Restore Power: Once installation is complete and all connections are secure, restore power at the main circuit breaker.

5.1. Setting the Twilight Threshold

The twilight threshold determines the ambient light level at which the device will switch the connected lights on or off. This can be adjusted to your preference:

  • Locate the adjustment button/dial on the device.
  • Press the button or rotate the dial to increase or decrease the sensitivity. A higher sensitivity means the light will turn on earlier in dimming conditions, and a lower sensitivity means it will wait for darker conditions.
  • Test the setting by observing the light behavior at dusk and dawn.

5.2. Vario Night Economy Mode

This intelligent function allows you to save energy by programming a period during the night when the lights are not needed:

  • Identify the rotary knob for the Vario economy mode.
  • Rotate the knob to set the desired duration for the economy period. During this period, the connected lights will automatically switch off, even if it's dark.
  • The lights will automatically reactivate in the morning before dawn, ensuring illumination when needed.

6. Maintenance

The NightMatic 3000 requires minimal maintenance to ensure long-term performance:

  • Cleaning: Periodically wipe the sensor lens and the device housing with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust or dirt. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Inspection: Annually inspect the wiring connections for any signs of wear or corrosion. Ensure the device is securely mounted.
  • No User-Serviceable Parts: Do not attempt to open the device for internal cleaning or repair. Refer to qualified personnel for any issues beyond basic cleaning.
