Image 1: The Profitec BT 105 A Analog Battery Tester. The device is black with an analog meter at the top displaying 'REPLACE' and 'GOOD' zones for various battery types. Below the meter is a rotary dial for selecting battery test settings. Red and black test leads with probe tips are attached to the side.

Components:

  • Analog Meter: Displays battery condition (Good, Replace, Recharge).
  • Rotary Selector Dial: Used to select the appropriate battery type and voltage for testing.
  • Test Leads: Integrated red (+) and black (-) leads with probe tips for connecting to battery terminals.
  • 9V Battery Contacts: Specific contacts on the device for testing 9V block batteries.

4. Setup

The Profitec BT 105 A is ready for use directly out of the packaging. No assembly or internal battery installation is required for the tester itself, as it draws power from the battery being tested.

Initial Inspection:

  • Unpack the battery tester and inspect it for any visible damage.
  • Ensure the test leads are securely attached and free from fraying.

5. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to test your batteries:

  1. Select Battery Type: Rotate the selector dial to match the type and voltage of the battery you wish to test. The available settings are:
    • BUTTON 1.5V 1mA
    • 3V 1mA
    • LITHIUM/AAA 10mA
    • AA 50mA
    • D 250mA
    • 4.5V
    • 6V
    • 9V
    • 12V
    • 22.5V
    • 3V PHOTO
    • 1.5V PHOTO
  2. Connect Battery:
    • For cylindrical batteries (AAA, AA, C, D) and other small batteries: Use the red (+) and black (-) test leads. Press the red probe tip to the positive terminal of the battery and the black probe tip to the negative terminal. Ensure good contact.
    • For 9V block batteries: Place the battery's terminals directly onto the corresponding contacts on the tester (usually located on the side or top of the device). The flat side of the 9V battery (negative) should align with the negative contact on the tester, and the raised side (positive) with the positive contact.
  3. Read the Meter: Observe the analog needle on the display. The meter is divided into colored zones indicating the battery's condition under load:
    • GOOD (Green Zone): The battery has sufficient charge and is in good working condition.
    • REPLACE (Red Zone): The battery is depleted and should be replaced.
    • RECHARGE (Yellow/Orange Zone, for rechargeable types): The rechargeable battery is depleted and needs to be recharged.
The meter also has specific scales for 'REGULAR' batteries, 'BUTTON CELL-LITHIUM' batteries, and 'NICKEL CADMIUM' (rechargeable) batteries. Ensure you are reading the correct scale for your selected battery type.
  4. Disconnect Battery: Once the reading is taken, remove the battery from the tester.

Important Notes:

  • The tester applies a small load during measurement, which provides a more realistic assessment of battery performance compared to simply measuring open-circuit voltage.
  • For optimal accuracy, ensure the test leads make firm contact with the battery terminals.

6. Maintenance

Cleaning:

Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the casing or display.

Storage:

Store the Profitec BT 105 A in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Keep it out of reach of children.

7. Troubleshooting

  • No Needle Movement: Ensure the battery is correctly connected and the selector dial is set to the appropriate battery type. If testing a completely dead battery, the needle may not move.
  • Inconsistent Readings: Check for clean contact points on both the battery and the test leads. Ensure the selector dial is firmly set to the correct position.
  • Tester Appears Damaged: Discontinue use immediately and contact customer support.
